Authorities at Ashland, Ore., are
investigating the story of Alice
Vestal, zz, who allegedly was
stolen when she was 12 years old,
and held captive for 10 years dur
ing which time she was married
to her kidnaper and raised a fam
ily of four children.

quet .was given by the Booster
club of Woodburn high school,
under the management of Mrs.
Helen Guiss and Miss Bolton, for
the 50 bootball boys and' their
guests Monday night In the school

The program consisted of mu
sical numbers, a reading by Viola
Mills, brief remarks by Miss Laa
rine Jones, the president of the
Booster club. Paul Halter, cap
tain of the football team, and
Coach Hal Chapman also gave
short talks and introduced the
main speaker of the evening,

Among the honored guests were
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Smith, Mr.
and Mrs.- Lyman Shory, Martin
Barsted and Mr. R. L. Guiss.
The party was a dance.

At Church Meet
HAZEL GREEN The Salem
Japanese were represented at a
recent regional conference of Jap
anese churches in Seattle by the

Tanaka, Taul Watanabe, Hiroshi
Keneko, Tadao Tokinoto, Roy
Kaneko, Lorraine Takayama, Ko

In the high school division of
the group May Oye won the first
prize In the essay contest, using
the theme, "Be Strong and of
Good Courage."
Comedy Postponed

of the death of Ewald TIppner,
the three-act comedy "Aaron
Slick from Pumpkin Crick" waa
not given . Saturday night. It will
be giren following the holidays.
Tippner, who died' Friday In
California was buried at Green
Mountain cemetery Tuesday aft
ernoon. He had been a strawberry
grower in the hills for 14 years.

mother, Mrs. L. Stanton, at the
piano; and a vocal duet by Mrs.
Ben Giff ord and her daughter.

Announcement was made of the
coming visit of the grand chief,
Margaret Phillips, for January 18.
The Knights extended an invi
tation to the Sisters, to be the
former's guests December 14 at
a bridge party and no-host sup
per. Plans were made for the
annual Christmas party for the
children on December 21. A 6:30
no-host supper will be followed by
a program and Christmas tree.

for Flint, Mich. They expect to
be gone two weeks.

Frank Fawk had died suddenly
of a heart attack while he and Mr.
Yates were attending to the mail
in the postoffice early Tuesday
morning.
