by 12 Children; Heart
Trouble Causes Death
'ALBANY Un. Melissa Flor-
ce Jordan, 77, a resident of

e mother of 12 living children.
died at the Albany General hos
pital Tuesday night. Death was
due to heart trouble.. '
Funeral services hare been ar
ranged for Friday at 2 oc'lock
from the Christian church In this
city. R6T. Ylrgiia Halbig will con
duct the service. Burial will be In
Central cemetery. The Fisher Fu
neral home is in charge of ar
rangements. , .
Mrs. Jordan was bora October
14, ItCS, la Fulton, I1L She was
married to R. JB. Jordan on March
18, 1885. In 1S98 they came to
Oregon, the1 greater time since
being spent In Linn county. Mr.
Jordan died many years ago. Mrs.
Jordan was a member of the
Christian church.

bany. She is also survived by
brother and sister, Ed Darrow
and Mrs. Effie McDannal, both
of Brighton, Colo., and a number
of grandchildren.

betts, 77, a resident of Oregon
for the past SS years, II of which
were spent in and near Albany,
died at the Sacred Heart hospital
in Eugene Monday night Funer
al services were held from the
Fisher Funeral home la Albany
Wednesday afternoon at 2: SO. Dr.
C E. Coles had charge of the
services and burial was in River
side cemetery.
Tlbbetta was born In Duluth.
Minn., August IS, 1SS2. He came
to Oregon from Wisconsin in
1101. The first IS rears after his
arrival here he spent in Eugene
and then came to Albany where
he lived until recently when he
had been making; his home in
Yachats. He was a member of the
Methodist church.
Surviving is the widow, Cora
Moore Tibbetts, and the follow
ing children i Harry of Toledo,
Mrs. John Lamberty of Albany,
Mrs, Lyda Howard of Ashland,
Mrs. Esther George of San Fran
cisco, Calif., and Mrs. Madeline
Garver and Mrs. Hazel Kimmey
of Portland. He Is also survived
by a sister, Mrs. Lyda Smith of
Jacksonville, and five grand
children.
Return From Vacation
In California, Mexico
UNION HILL Mr. and Mrs.
W. M. Tate and daughter, MarJ
orle. returned from a two weeks'
vacation in California. While
there they visited the fair and
want on Into Mexico. They also
visited with relatives along the
war.

Macomber Found
Guilty by Jury
DALLAS A Polk eounty cir
cuit court jury returned a unani
mous verdict of guilty in the ease
of the State vs. Glen Theodore Ma
comber hero Tuesday afternoon
after deliberating one hour. Holt
Stockton was foreman of the Jury.
Judge Walker announced that he
would sentence Macomber on
Thursday morning at 10:30.
Macomber was charged with
grand larceny. He allegedly took
four tires and wheels from a truck
belonging to Joe Cliff of Dallas
on the night of August 1.
The case had been heard before
Judge Arlie G. Walker here Mon
day and Tuesday of this week. At
the conclusion of the state's case
at the resumption of court Tues
day afternoon the defense" an
nounced that the defendant did
not wish to take the witness stand
and that he had no other wit
nesses. Later the defense attorney
asked that the ease be reopened
and Mrs. Macomber, mother of the
defendant, took the stand but did
not testify.
Entrance Time Is
- Extended by Vote
SALEM HEIGHTS Time of
entrance of primary pupils was
extended, to December 1 at. a
special school meeting held
Wednesday night. The date Is
fixed by law at November 15,
but specifies that it may be
changed as a special meeting.-
The school board has placed
seats : la the vestibule of the
community hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Robins,
former Heights residents, now
living east of town, lost all their
belongings by fire recently.
Swegle PTA Hears
Of Value of Radio
SWEGLE The first regular
meeting of Swegle Parent-Teach
er association wss held at the
school house Tuesday night with
almost a 100 per cent attend
ance. Following a dinner Mrs.
William Hensel entertained with
a piano solo while the dishes
were cleared for the business
meeting.
The upper grade room won
the picture given for the attend
ance of parents and friends, by
96 per cert. Two new members,
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kelson were
welcomed. The program commit
tee presented a suggested pro
gram for the year.
The speaker, Art Kirkham, was
presented by William Hensel.
Kirkham emphasized the use
made of radio programs by the
citizens of a democratic form of
government,- and of how the
broadcasting systems contribute
something worthwhile as social
and educational agencies.
Following the program the
members voted to sponsor hot
lunches for the school children
and a committee was appointed
to take charge of the project,
Mrs. William Hensell, Mrs. L.
W. Star, Mrs. Homer Conklin.
The next regular meeting will
be the third Tuesday in Novem
ber with a reception for the teach
ers and Mrs. Agnes Booth being ,
planned.

ficers president. Leslie Weather
ill; vice president, Leonard Stro
bel; secretary, Vera Zollner;
treasurer, Cecelia Weatherill. The
club is making plans for its first
dance of the season to be held
November 10.
