Wool prices continued to advance today
on the Boston market, even though trad
ing was somewhat slower thsa earlier la
the week. Graded ataple combing length a
fine Tezaa wools brought 81.12 to 3 1.15,
scoured basis. Graded fine Delaine bright
fleeces brought around 45 cents la the
grease, or 81.10 to 3 1.15, scoured baaia.

bat this price has been realized ea mixed

War shares were handed out at
lower prices In a confused stock
market today.
Steels, alrcrafts, chemicals and
other recent favorites retired
from advance posts of the war
buy drives, many losing 1 to
around 2 points.
Covering the retreat were
flurries of buying in motors, rub
bers, rails and utilities. Final
prices showed a mixture of gains
nd declines which left the As
sociated Press composite price of
60 stocks unchanged at 53.5.
Transactions totaled 2,339,930
shares against 1,712,670 the
previous session. Large dealings
in rails and utilities in the fore
noon made much of the turn
over. Motors Recover.
Motors stepped to the front
at" the close to recover earlier
losses. The forthcoming New
York automobile show and re
ports new car sales were going
well encouraged traders to shift
to the automotive groups when
interest in the "war babies"
waned.
For want of more specific ex
planation, some brokers suggested
the selling in war stocks may
have been actuated in part by
belief a "peace campaign' would
follow in event of Warsaw's
capitulation and completion of
Russian and German territorial
plans in eastern Europe. This
idea has persisted in some Wall
street quarters, despite the de
clared British and French inten
tions to fight to a finish.
At the same time, it was said,
traders have been steering more
cautiously until the smoke clears
from the neutrality fight in con

There'll be turkey on the table
for Oregon's Thanksgiving this
year. A department of agricul
ture report today estimated the
turkey population at 1,518.000
birds, 20 per cent more than
Oregon's 1938 production of 1,
265,000. The crop was more than twice
as large -as the 1931-35 average
of 730,000 birds.
Quality and weight were
brought above average by favor
able feed and weather conditions.
The Portland area's limited
marketing indicated producers
were holding for higher prices.
Although eight carloads of fresh
stock moved east in August and
September, shippers said reduc
tion of cold storage stocks would
be necessary for better priceB
later.
