NEW YORK, July 20.-(P)-The
stock market did Its best to revive
the rallying spirit today but lost
heart when a last-minute selling
flurry cnt down leaders fractions
o more than 2 points.
In the morning buyers nibbled
at selected aircrafts and special
ties and, for a while, it looked as
though the list might get back on
the climbing track. At the beat,
prices were only moderately
mixed with gains in the majority
at one time. A handful of issues
hanaged to edge Into new high
ground for the year when things
were going fairly well.
Short sellers regained a little
confidence aa the forward push
began to fade and this influence
helped depress prices in the clos-T,
ing hour.
At the same time, profit taking
on the recent upsurge seemed to
have been about completed. Com
pared with the feverish pace of
Monday and Tuesday, the turn
over was rather slack. Transfers
for the five hours totalled 806.
230 shares against 1.022,300 the
day before. The Associated Press
average of 60 stocks was off .5 of
a point at 49.1. duplicating its re
cession of Wednesday.
