P iisic The concert season, though re linquishing headlines temporar ily to student recitals, is not yet over in Salem, for there is to be a program of nnusual in terest on Thursday of this week, presented by. a group of local singers, The Salem Civic chorus, under the able direction of Prof. E. W. Hobson. The concert will be given in the American Luth eran church at :15 o'clock. Although the group of excel lent singers has been practicing regularly for a year, this is the first appearance in concert, and it is with a great deal ot inter est that music lovers are antici pating the program. The singing group, now numbering fourteen voices, is made np of the per sonnel of the Salem Madrigal chorus and the Civic Male cho rus which enjoyed several years of popularity under Prof. Hob son's direction. Several addi tional singera have been added to the group. The program will Include all concert numbers. Several Important names in musical circles of Salem are In cluded among the soloists. Helenbrand celebrated their 65th wedding an nlversary quietly at their bone on South High street on June 9, few Salem folk realizing that the couple are quite unique in bavin been married in Salem so many years ago. Few if any other couples can enjoy this distinction and that of having been true pio neers who built western Oregon. Mrs. Helenbrand, who was Leo na M. Kimball before her mar riage, Is now 83. She cams across the plains with her parents in 'SI from Illinois. Her father fought In the war of 1812. Mr. Helenbrand Is 81 and was only four years old when his family came around the Horn from Maine. It took the par ty six months from New York te San Francisco, a trip taking but a few days now. Mrs. Helenbrand attended Wil lamette university in 1872 and 1873. Following their marriage at -a spot somewhere between Liberty and Commercial on State street by Rev. P. S. Knight, the couple resided In Salem. After three years they homesteaded in Tillamook county and owned a great deal ot property around Hebo where tbeir only living daughter still resides. In 1913 Mr. and Mrs. Helen brand moved to Salem and have been here ever since. Mrs. Helenbrand is very proud of her father's bible which she owns and wnich contains names of marriages and births dating from 1740. best voices, excellent soloists and a wide variety of selection in numbers eshould prove one ot the finest concerts of the year.
