CENTRAL HOWELL Mrs.
Daisy Bump of North Howell was
the guest speaker at the meeting
of the Farmers Union auxiliary
held at Mrs. Fred Kaser's home
Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. A. E.
Kuenzi as assisting hostess.
Mrs. Bump spoke on "Flowers
and Flower Culture." It was de
cided to hare an exchange of
plants at the April meeting.

Junior Farmers Union met at the
Talbot schoolhouse Thursday
night with 22 present. The co
operative movement was the study
topic. A program was planned lor
the next meeting.
LIBERTY The Liberty Farm
ers Union members at the monthly
Tuesday night meeting, heard in
teresting talks and discussion of
the fruit outlook. News bulletins
from OSC stated that the "dump
ing" of oranges from the south
id the northwest would be a strong
competitive factor in the market
tag of northwest fruits.
R. C. Jory of the Jory Packing
company spoke on the marketing
problems encountered by Oregon
canned fruits. Leonard Zielke,
president of the Roberts local, told
of the working plans for the Mid
Willamette Farmers Union coop
erative. It wilL he said, operate
on a wholesale basis in feeds,
grain and perishable produce. It
is planned, also, to conduct a bar
ter service section for farmers.
- Simpson Hamrick of Bethel
stated that the Oregon Farmers
Union cooperative hospital associa
tion now waits only for sign-up
of members in the association to
go ahead with hospital plans.
A C. Plummer spoke on rodent
control and told of his methods in
trapping pocket gophers and
stated that WPA funds would be
available for a fight against field
mice if there were a 60 per cent
sign-up of property owners. Field
mice are becoming more prolific
here each year and little is being
done in controlling them.

Silverton Lutheran brotherhood
chapter at a meeting ; held at
Calvary church Tuesday night.
Other officers were: Vice presi
dent, H. N. Kiev; secretary, J.
C. Larson; treasurer, Ed Camp
bell. Silas .Torvend is ; the out
going president.
A debate was held on "Re
solved That tbe United States
Should Return to Prohibition,'
with Ernest Campbell speaking
for the affirmative and Alf O.
Nelson for the negative.' Nelson,
who. is local Justice of the peace,
contended that the Knox laws
of Oregon were sufficient if the
public would help xiphoid them.
A vocal duet by H. N. Kiev
and Oscar Olson w&s given and
Rev. J. M. Jenson conducted a
bible study period.

SILVERTON Spring is acta
ally here, says W. S. Jack. Not
only the swallows have returned
to nest in tbe buUdings about
the Jack garden but four of the
over 50 snakes which make their
summer home in the Jack
rockery have also returned.
Snakes and swallows, Jack re
ports, are largely responsible for
the lack of harmful pests In the
home - gardens.
