walked off with first prize tor best
all-around exhibit atthe 8alem 20
30 club hobby show last night.
Davis' display features skillfully
mounted hawks, owls, songbirds,
and small animals, all native to
the Salem vicinity.
Second prise, for handicraft,
went to Wayne Sturgess' model of
a Napoleonic coach, chosen by an
eyelash over a similar model by
Paul Franklin.
Third prise, for the most inter
esting exhibit, was cornered by
the Salem Chemical Garden club
plants being grown In chemical so
lutions. Ellseth, Woods Win

woodworking, and Kenneth
Woods of Dallas in model plane
division. Both are members of the
Salem Home Workshop club.

Fellowship Radio
Group to Appear
Anne Johnstone and the Fel
lowship Haven radio group, heard
over station KWJJ Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturdays at 2
a'clock. will conduct both morn
ing and evening services at the
Salem church of the Foursquare
Gospel tomorrow. The Fellowship
Haven program has many follow
ers in Salem and vicinity - who
have never had the privilege of
meeting the ones who are "behind
the move." This opportunity will
be provided as the gronp presents
a special musical program at each
service and also will be giving
personal testimonies.
The Fellowship Haven program
being of an undenominational na
ture. It is anticipated that a large
crowd will gather for both serv
ices. The church is located at 19th
and Breyman streets, and the serv
ices are open to all who desire
to attend.

the Marlon County Holiness asso
ciation will be held Tuesday, Feb

notified ten Salem reserve offi
cers of their selection as exam
iners for appointment and promo
tion boards that may be convened
in the Marion and Polk county
area during 1929.
Officers receiving the appoint
ments were Major Miller B. Hay
den, Judge advocate generals de
partment; Capt. Edgar R. Austin
and Capt. Norman K. Raymond,
infantry; Capt. Emmett C. For
sythe, chemical warfare; Capt.
Louis B. Schoel, dental depart
ment; Capt. Vern W. Miller, med
ical department; Capt. George
Spaur and Lieut. T. T. McKenile,
engineers; Lieut. Kenneth W. Dal
ton, quartermaster corps, and
Lieut Floyd L. Siegmund, field
artillery.
The order directs the assign
ment of one or more of the ex
aminers for all boards called for
applicants for appointment In the
officers reserve corps and for all
officers applying for promotion
within the corps. -
Soliciting in Gty
Held Unauthorized
Solicitors who are going from
door to door asking for funds for
either the Reserve Officers asso
ciation or Lieut. Richard Covelle
are doing so without the consent
of the organization or the individ
ual member, Lieut. Covelle de
clared yesterday in asking that
such requests be ignored.
"The Reserve Officers associa
tion never authorizes such solici
tation of funds tor any purpose,"
the lientenant pointed out.
The canvassers are representing
that the RO group is holding an
essay contest for school children
in connection with national de
fense week, and wants the funds
for this purpose.
Plans for Youth
Center Progress
Plans for development of the
Youth Center in the former city
camp grounds were advanced at
a meeting of the NTA council at
the Salem chamber ot commerce
rooms Thursday. Work ot reno
vating the building was expected
to begin February 16, with six or
eight boys employed.
Construction ot furniture, sim
ilar to that In Timberline lodge,
was to be carried on la the NYA
workshops.

favoring action by the city in rip-
rapping Shelton ditch through the
property, and improvement of the
grounds under a WPA. project.

Sixteen, directors were, elected
by the Salem Commaalty Chest at
its annual meeting Friday noon.
A financial report shewed. ISO,
811.27 collected , of this year's
subscriptions of 1 4 7,201. To date,
S12.2CI.C1 has beea distributed
to the participating agencies. Op
eration and campaign expense
amounted to f 2820.0C.
As compared to 22 per cent of
the 1927 budget subscribed. 102
per cent of the 1922 minimum
budget wis paid in or pledged.
Collections on .1927 pledges
amounted to 98.2 per cent. A vote
of appreciation was accorded to
William Moran, secretary, for his
work in connection with collec
tions and clerical details.
