Smith wrote more in light than serious vein. But here is what the governor replied : "I read with much InterestO . your letter of November 30 re garding the furniture purchased for ,the capitol. I had no more to do with I than yon did. my friend. I have Just as high a re gard tor the taxpayers' money as you have. "The expenditure for furniture In the capitol, was a matter en tirely within the jurisdiction of the capitol reconstruction com mission over which I have no control. The commission was cre ated by the legislature which body appointed six of the nine commissioners. At the time, I urged that the oppointment be made under the sole jurisdiction of the governor so that effective centralised control could be ob tained. However, the legislature did not do so. y "Too are welcome to come and sit In "the chair mentioned in your letter. In fact, it is your privilege to sit in any end all of the chairs in the executive office. With kindest regards, I am cordially and sincerely yours, "CHARLES H. MARTIV, Governor.
