Elks to Initiate Big Class Tonight Initiation of 25 eligible can didates will be held by the Elks lodge tonight In conjunction with the official visit of District Deputy Grand Exaltea Ruler John H. Houston who was, ap pointed by Grand Exalted Ruler Edward F. McCormick at Atlan tie'' City this summer. A ban qnet and special entertainment will follow the regular lodge meeting and initiation rites. The second Elks night club dance of the Beason will be held Wednesday night, November 23, the night before' Thanksgiving. These dances are very popular and a large crowd is- expected. Tommy Thomas and hid eleven piece band will furnish the mu sic and there will be specialty vaudeville acts. Statesman Story Unites Neighbors Ol 26 Years Ago WEST STAYTON A meet ing of old friends was brought about here Monday by a news Item In The Statesman from West Stayton, when Mr. and Sirs. Ray Nye of Lyons greet ed the Newton Campbells, their old neighbors in Sey mour, Iowa, 26 years ago. The : Nyes recollected that they applied at the Newton Campbell home last summer for a bean picking job, but, as Campbell had registered all his pickers they were refused a job and neither recognized the other. Charles Jory, sr., Last Rites Held at 'Valley FOX VALLEY Funeral and .burial services for Charles Jory. sr., were held at the Fox Valley cemetery Saturday afternoon. Mr. Jory was quite well known here. He lived at Salem a, major por tion of ills life. Surviving are two sons, Charles of Salem and 'William of Stockton, Calif. Nibler and his sister, Sophie, have' sold their stock of groceries to DeJardin Bros., who are moving it across tne street to their store. The DeJardins have leased the Nib ler . building for a year to use as a. warehouse. Nibler started clerking 50 years ago for Goodman Bros, when they conducted a general store In .this room which Ihe Nlblers now own. In" 1904 he opened a store for himself In the Masonic building, later moving it to the present location , which he , had bought. Later he moved back to the Ma sonic building and nine years ago moved again to his building. Sophie and another sister, Min nie, became members of the firm in 1914. Falling health and advancing years are given as the reason for Mr. Nibler'a retirement. Alumni of Amity To Hold Banquet AMITY The annual meeting and banquet of Amity high school alumni will be held in the school auditorium Saturday, November 26 at 7:30 p. m., to which all almuni and their wives or husbands are invited. Dancing will follow the ban quet, program and business meeting. Carl Wood is president, Royal Cochran, vie e-presldent, and Mrs. Ernestine Prunk, secretary-treasurer. Annual Reception For all Teachers Given by Women DALLAS The annual recep tion given by the Dallas Wom an's club in honor of the teach ers of the local schools, was held in the club rooms in library hali Monday night. Officers of the Woman's club and of the junior Woman's club formed the re ceiving line. Nusom Car Theft Still Unsolved ELDRIEDGE No trace was reported found .up to late Wed owned by Allyn Nusom and stolen from in front of the Ar thur Goffin place early Tuesday night. State police were notified. Residents here oelieve the car was taken by a 14-year-old es capee from the training school, for a bicycle said to have been identified as one he rode, was found near where the Nusom car was parked.
