Water System
Commission Estimates Cost
of Improvements, if
Made, at $11,000
SILVERTON The Silverton
water commission, headed by Dr.
A. W. Simmons, is preparing a
project which will call for the
filter box and improvement of
the dam, all in the Abiqua sys
tem. If accepted as being pre
pared, the project will run - to
approximately. $11,600.
SILVERTQX- Plans are week
ly gaining -momentum toward
the starting of the new $150,000
high, school building whch is to
be built on school district prop
erty near the McGinnis ball
park. The school board has
found it more feasible to have
the- building face the south than
to face west-on James avenue as
at first planned. A new street,
short, but 80 feet wide, will be
laid between Brown street and
James avenue and the school
will tace this.
If present plans carry out the
first' spadeful of dirt .will be
turned on Thanksgiving day.

Cain was rushed to the Silver
ton hospital Wednesday night In
the Ekman ambulance. Cain was
considered in a critical condition
SILVERTON Immanuel Lu
theran Guild will hold a Hollo
ween party on October 27 which
will especially honor the teachers
of the local schools. Harold L.
Adams, superintendent of
schools, will be guest soloist.
The affair will be , held In the
social rooms of Immanuel church
and the committee chairman is
Mrs. Sam Lorenzen.
SILVERTON High school
seniors are already laying plans
for attending open house at the
sew high school building which
will be completed a year from
this fall. H. L. Adams, super
intendent of schools, described
the plans for the new building
ai,d displayed bine prints at a
special assembly of the senior
high school Wednesday after

son will be the student body
dance Friday night when the
senior class will entertain for
the sophomores. The junior
class will also attend.

singer and boxer, in a New York
night club and socked him with
a good right-hand punch because
he allegedly failed to keep a date.
Doyle only recently returned to
the U. S. from Europe.
