Property valuations of utilities
for 1938. will be considered in
making the state tax levy for
1989. The 1939 tax levy will be
announced in November. .
A. ! 1.80 per pupil apportion
ment of the county school fund
was . made here yesterday : by
Mary L. Fulkerson, county su
perintendent, to bring the 1938
payment up to one-half the
year's total due by law. The
aggregate payment to the school
districts will be $35,182.80.
Superintendent Fulkerson said
she hoped to be able to finish

A brawl in a downtown soft
drink parlor last night precipitat
ed the arrest of two Portland men,
Robert 1 Trowbridge and H. J.
Hendrick, by a city officer.
" Trowbridge was Jailed on a
charge of being drunk and disor
derly and Hendrick, charged with
being disorderly, was released on
$10 bail.
Russell H. S t a g g, 554 North
Liberty, was also booked at the
city police station for drunken
ness. !
Stabilizer Brings

Blowouts, even two of them on
the' same side of the car when it
is trareling 70 miles an hour,
cause no swerrlng of the machine
equipped with the new Bendix hy
draulic steering stabilizer, which
will be demonstrated in Salem
today for the first time.
Postponed from sereral weeks
ago because the men In charge
were' called east to demonstrate
the car before a gorernment agen
cy, the demonstration here will
be held this afternoon at 5:15
o'clock, on Cottage street be
tween D and Marion.
Tires will be blown out with a
shotgun strapped to the running
board, and the car will leap oyer
sandbags and logs In different
tests to show that the stabilizer
does not permit any loss of con
trol under these trying conditions.
