The body will lie In state at the RIgdon chapel all this morning. Active in Woodburn's civic life, the deceased had been librarian for-the past 10 years. IIS Piano-Accordion Contest Offered Free Instruction Classes Slated by Meisinger Studio in Salem An unusual contest in which participants will "start from scratch" is being sponsored in Salem by the Priscilla Meisinger studios. Contestants, certifying that they have had no practice or instruction in playing piano- accordian prior to entry, will be given instruction without cost. They must register by Febru ary 7. Then, early in the summer, the contest will be held and they will be judged on the playing, from memory, of two selections. There will be a district contest, winners in which will enter the regional, and finally the national Soprani contest. National winners will receive a trip to Italy with all expenses paid from New York and return. The Meisinger studios are now enrolling free-instruction classes in connection with this contest. Ray, who has engaged In the cattle buying and whole sale meat business in the Salem district for msny years, is not the J. D. Ray who was found guilty in Woodburn justice court Tuesday of a charge of practic ing veterinary medicine without a license, the local, man declared yesterday. Sheriff's deputies con firmed his declaration. Ray. the cattle buyer, lives on Salem route five. The man convicted in the Woodburn court has appealed to the circuit court. Al Phillips, ar rested along with Ray, has been released from the county jail un der directions to leave the state. He planned to. go to California. Gty Free From Auto Fatalities 72 Mishaps Cause Dozen Injuries for January but no Deaths There were no fatalities listed among the 72 accidents involving motor vehicles that occured with in tho Salem city limits for Jan uary, the regular monthly police report shows. Twelve persons were injured. including two pedestrians, six motorists, two motorists in a col lision with a train and two bi cyclists. Officers ticketed 2195 automo biles for parking violations. 19 for speed violations, 12 for run ning through red lights, four for ifproper registration or license and 20 for miscellaneous causes. Eleven cars were reported stol en, of which 10 were recovered.
