state should make a larger direct
contribution to elementary and
high school education, Sumner
Newell of the East Side Taxpayers
League told the Multnomah coun
ty tax commission at a school dis
trict budget hearing today.
"The public should know that
the approximately two per cent
which the state contributes is the
lowest in any state, with one ex
ception," Newell said.
