Contract Signed, by Board
to Have Pupils From
Outside Attend '
is
: s v. . ,
; -SCIO Contract baa bees Biffin
ei by board members of districta
ti, Scio. and 83, Schindler, at
Tseadar'a meeting whereby grade
sttidenta from the latter district
will attend the Scio school. Pay
ment f tuition of these students,
probably about 1 4, will be based
oa the per capita cost of gtodenta
attending Scio In 1937-38. Total
payment is expected to be about
1100. District 83 will farnisb Its
on transportation. 1 ,
LTlie increase of students from
the Schindler district will .enable
the Scio district to employ four
grade teachers Instead of three,
so contract has been tendered to
Ruth House r of St. Helens as a
fourth teacher, v- 1 i. '
.., Bessie Mare Relnbsjrt of Foster,
graduate of Oregon Normal, has
accepted a position to teach In the
Scio Intermediate, grades, taking
the place of Veloris Crenshaw. .
High School Setup rucertaln
Pupils intending to enter Scio
Ugh school, this year should reg
ister on September 13, according
to announcement this week by
Principal J. H. TumblesOn. A
fourth teacher will be added If a
sufficient number of students reg
ister, Tnmblason added. ? .
Under a three-teacher set-up
the state department of education
regulates the basic program : of
studies, which limits elective! and
student activities. With removal
of transportation by the Scio dis
trict, it is impossible to determine
the number of students who plan
to attend Scio high from outside.
This prohibits the board's an
nouncing exact curriculum, the
principal pointed out. !: I
Resignation of W. S. Snyder as
high school Instructor in science
and mathematics, was accepted. A
teacher, to fill his place had not
been selected. '

the Queen Anne school campus,
in charge of Miss Grace Geiat, la
solving a vacation problem for
busy mothers.
While Tacatlon trips, Illness or
other causes prevent unbroken
attendance. Miss Gelst reports an
average attendance of 38 within
the last few weeks. Mrs. Emma
Strunkr and Mrs. Maude Lemons
of Albany have been sent to as
sist with the work.
Weaving of rugs, making bas
kets of pine needles, vases, doll
hammocks and Yo-Yo pillows
are a part of their handwork.
Teeters swings sand box and
halls haveybeen provided but the
supply is entirely inadequate, as
less than half the number of
children can take recreation at
one time and the teachers find
it necessary to plan, new amuse
ments. Miss Gelst, who was very suc
cessful in teaching? knitting, bas
ket and rug making in the adult
groups the past two years, will
resume that work In September.
