Bell Wade. 49. Sweet Home, died
January. 17 at the local hospital
following a lingering illness. She
was born in OregonJn 1888. She
spent all her life In this section
and was united in "marriage with
Floyd Wade at .Peoria in October
1908. .
She is survived by her widower
land a son Jack of! Sweet Home;
two brothers. Mack McClure of
Sweet Home, and George of Leb
anon ; four sisters, Mrs. Era Wade.

the disagreeable night the at
tendance was low' at the Farm
ers' ujiion meeting Friday night,
however an Instructive and en
joyable session was had. Several
members discussed economic
questions. Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Morgan of North Santiam were
given the union obligation. Sing
ing was led by Jim Wilson with
Mrs. Selmer Lee, pianist.

Set By Churches
DALLAS. Jan. 20 The First
Methodist church will have special
services next Sunday night. Miss
Sybal Tucker, district worker of
the Portland" area of the Oregon
conference of the Methodist
churchl will be the guest speaker.
Miss Tucker is a especially train
ed in young people's work and is
j an interesting speaker.
She will give a talk at the Ep-
worth i League meeting and will
also speak at the regular Sunday
night church service. At the con
clusion of the service Miss Tuc
ker will hold a conference for
Sunday school workers and young
people.
Rev. A. B. Cromwell, pastor of
the First Christian church, an
nounces the Polk county Chris
tian Endeavor Union will hold a
school: at the Christian church
for the five next consecutive Wed
nesday nights, starting tonight.
Dr. Walter Myers will be j in

are open to anyone Interested in
youth leadership and there Is no

WEST SALEM. Jan. 2). The
West Sale n community club met
Monday evening and. elected of
ficers. Ray St umbo was elected
president; A. F. iGoifrier. vice
president; and R. E. Pattison re
elected secretary, -treasurer. A
group . of guitar players from
Doolittle's service station put on
a musical entertainment. Cake
and hot coffee sales brought in
$3.90 for the treasury.
The teachers In the Ford Mem
orial Sunday'- school met Tues
day night with Mrs. -Arthur
Brown. It was decided to let the
Sunday school service run from
' ( to 10 minutes past 11 o'clock
giving the teachers more time
for their- class work, -as It Is Im
possible for Rev.; K. K. Clark to

Liquor Proposal
Tabled By Dads
DALLAS, Jan. 20 The pro
posed ordinance prohibition sale
of intoxicating llquar here from
1 a. m. Sunday until 7 a. m. Mon
day was tabled at the Monday
night session of the city council.
A resolution was adopted by
the council asking that the pres
ent legislature provide to cities
of Oregon for street purposes a
share in the gross revenue of the
highway commission. The request
is for 5 per cent in 1937, ff per
cent in 1938, 7 per cent In 1940
and 7 per cent, thereafter. Dis
tribution according to ratio of pop
ulation is asked.
The quarterly report of the
Dallas water board was given
which showed that two more of
the $1000 bonds were paid dur
ing the last three months.

Legion and auxiliary met In their
respective meeting - rooms Tues
day night to make final plans for
the district conference to be held
here Thursday. " : y
There will be a meeting of the
presidents and secretaries of the
district and any members ot the
auxiliary who wish to come at
2:30 p. m. Thursday In the Mi.
Angel auditorium. The . meeting
for the Legionnaires will likewise
be .at 2:30 p. m. but will be held
in the city hall.
The district officers will pre
side at both meetings. Mrs. Otella
Mardls of Dallas at the auxiliary
meeting and Roy Davenport of
Silverton at that of the Legion.
Other! officials scheduled I to be
present are Mrs. Mabel Mclntruff,
state secretary, Mrs. Blanche
Jones; state president; Mrs. Mae
Waters, state vice-president;' Guy
Cordon, state commander, and
Mose Palmateer, state vice-com-mander.
