- Mrs. Marie Baker, wife of E.
L. Baker, well known farmer of
the Suver community died in the
Salem general hospital at Salem
Saturday at 5:30 a. m., following
a brief Illness..
' Mrs. Baker was born in New
Orleans, Louislanna, March 26,
1887. While she was quite young
she moved with her parents to
'Covington, Kentucky, where she
. grew to ypung womanhood and re
ceived her education. It Was there
she was married to Jack Gei.s
beck and soon afterward the
young . couple came west to Ore
gon and located at Albany where
she lived for several years. To
this union were born five child
ren, all of whom survive. They
. are: Miss Katherine Geljsbeck.
San Francisco; Miss Betty Geijs
beck. . Portland; Mr. Ed Geijs
:beck, Shedd, and Lester and John
Geijsbeck, Bly, Oregon. She is al
so survived by her husband, E. L.
Baker, to whom she was married
September 14. 1935, and by two
brothers. William Gieson, Coving-
ton. Kentucky, and Henry Gitson.

Keeney Funeral Home In Corval
lis and funeral" services under
their direction were . held in the
German' Lutheran ' church in Al

GRAND ISLAND, Dec. 28 The
foundation has been laid and con
struction work has been started on
the new residence being built by
Jake Tompkins, jr., near the new
road going between the C. A. Rock
hill and J. H. Tompkins farms.
Grade school children of the
community had only Christmas day
and will have only New Year's day
to enjoy as an extra vacation, due
to the fact that the school might
have a forced closing later on with
a high water. High school students
will not return to their school du
ties until after the new year.
The Mother's Circfe club was
pleasantly entertained Wednesday
afternoon with the usual Christ
mas party at the home of Mrs.
Lionel Crawford.
School Gives Program
The school children presented
an excellent Christmas entertain
ment at the schoolhouse Thursday
night before a capacity crowd. The
program included instrumental-music,
songs, recitations, playlets and
the play. "The Smith's Christmas."
which was given by the upper
grade children. Treats were distri
buted. Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Will enter
tained with a family dinner at their
home Christmas day for Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard Will of Jennings
Lodge, Jack Bovard of Portland,
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Will and fam
