Silverton Couple i
Wedded 56 years
IN SILVERTON, Mr. and Mrs.
B. Tingelstad will observe tbeir
56th weding anniversary Wed
nesday. Of these years, 44 have
been spent in and near Silverton.
The minister, .lev. R. O. Wla-
naes, who married the couple is
still living and resides at Fargo,
N. D. But : while he no longer
preaches, he is still active and
does beautiful woodwork. Not
long ago, as an anniversary gift,
Rev. Wisnaes sent Mr. and Mrs.
Tingelstad a handsome, hand-
carved box, typical of the lunch
eon boxes of old Norway, where
all three were born.
Mr. Tingelstad came to Ameri
ca in 187S. Mrs. Tingelstad, then
Miss Beret Lindahl, came a year
later. They did not know each
other, but later met In Hickson,
N. D-, and were married there on
December 16, 1880. In 1892, the
family of six came to Silverton
and settled' on a farm in the

Tingelstad, president of , Pacific
Lutheran college at Parkland,
Wash., Edwin Tingelstad, onci
principal of Silverton senior high
school, but now editor of the Pa
cific Lutheran Herold at Park
land, and also teacher at the col
lege; Martin Tingelstad of Salem,
and Miss Marie Tingelstad, who
is devoting her life toi the care
of her parents. " i

ANOTHER musical event for the concert goers of Salem on
Thursday night is the first program of the year to be pre-;
sented by Willamette' university band under the direction
of Ralph S. Nohlgren. The concert, to be given in Waller hall
is to raise funds for the purchase of new uniforms for the
32-piece band. j ' i ! j j ' . J r j!

based on the theme "The Old!
Home Down on the Farm." I ,
, Outstanding among the num
bers to be presented is the com
position Atlantis, the Lost Con
tinent, a suite in fonr parts,
which is a musical description of
the people of the mythical land,
culminating in its destruction by
forces of the sea. Religious life,
life of the royalty, love, and the
great catastrophe are depicted in
the four movements. The last
part climaxes the saite with the
musical description of the great
catastrophe which beset the
people and their land. The storm
can be heard approaching, grad-j
ually growing In its ferocity, un
til the disintegration ot the con
tinent by forces of the sea. The;
religious theme returns as the
people tarn to tbeir gods for sal
vation; the song of the lover can
be heard calling; and finally the
destruction in its entirety. ! j
A novelty number is te
piece, "She'll Be Comin Round
the Mountain"- In which several;
members of the band give their
interpretations of the familiar
hill-billy tune. M
