'Hear Warning
On Surpluses
Annual Sleets to
Be Held
in Five DistrieU
December 12
Approximately 100 loganberry
Kronen from all producing centers
la Oregon; meeting her all. day
yesterday at tqe caamber of com
merce, voted unanlmoujsly to carry
on tie Oregon Loganberry Control
Board. Inc.. for another year. At
the jsaine time, time land places
erei set for the annual meetings
In j each district for election of
members to theoard 0f directors.
- Fqr the first time I all the lo
ganberry discussions which hare
been held here the past few years,
a ndte of warning to keep-the
price! from going tool high - was
onnded at yesterday's session.
This jwas suggested a one means
to saying the logan industry from
over projection, as happened In
the hop industry, for instance.
Noj action was taken on this
matter, and there was some divl
sion jof sentiment on ,1 controlling
ver-productlon. Some" ifeeling was
also evident that other small fruits
should be brought under a control
board. ; 'I . '
j Has Good Record "
The past year, the control board
brought the industry through to a
4 cent price on logans, the highest
In years. Approximately 90 per
' cent t the berries in the state, in
cluding cooperative memberships,
came I under the board's Jurisdic
tion. 1 I -
Frank Hrubetx of Liberty, pres
ident of the control board of di
rectors, presided at the meeting
yesterday. Arden A. Reed of the
state (department of agriculture ex
plained the grades and grading set
opifdr the Industry atad Senator
E.4A.jMcCornack of Eugene spoke,
favoring the control j movement.
William Linfoot, attorney for the
board, gave a report of the past
year's activities.
Among problems which were
brought before- the irieettng was
the Influence of the Washington
law which prohibits Wineries in
that state from purchasing logans,
or other fruit, from outside Wash
ington for use in making wine.
However, no action was attempted
- tn th4 matter. I
Growers seemed to f feel general
ly that grades and grading should
be more uniform over the state,
both fn benefit to it he grower and
. the processor. - '. 1 A
