'Strike Sufferer'!
Is in Salem Jail
Walter Williams, against whom
a secret grand jury indictment
was returned Wednesday, was! in
the county jail yesterday charged
with non-support. He was arrest
ed by state police in Portland
and returned here at 3 o'clock
Friday morning. j
Williams received considerable
publicity and sympathy in Port
land! as typical sufferer, from
the strike. A picture was printed
in a Portland newspaper show
ing him with bis family. The only
hitch was that: the woman and
baby in the picture were not his
family. His wife had filed char
ges against him here for non
support and an indictment had
been returned against him.
When representatives rof the
Oregon City sheriff's office t
tempked to serve the warrant, 'en
Williams at the farm of Gustaf
Sailor near Molalla where Wil
liams had been working they
found the man gone. Then came
the publication of the Portland
picture, recognition and the
rest by the state police.
