Margery O'Dell who taught in
the Gates high school two years
ago, are Interested to hear of
her election as music, instructor
in The Dalles schools, also to
learn that Lois Renninger who
taught Jn the high school the
tast year has been hired to teach
In the Sherwood high school.
Mrs. Ruby Winters has received
word from her son, Ansel Hay
ward, that he Will be principal of
the first six grades in the Milwau
kee school this coming, year. He
has taught In the Riverton schools
the past fire years. -

- Guests at the Ferd Jones home
the first of ..: the wed were Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Davis of San Ga
briel; Calif. Davis Is breeding a
pinto type of saddle horse and
is hoping to locate somewhere in
western Oregon where he can
raise and market his horses. Mrs.
Davis is 'a teacher: in the Los
Angeles schools. On! Tuesday Mr.
and Mrs. Davis, Mr. and Mrs.
Jones, Doris Jones,! Mrs. Frank
Myers of Walla Walla, and C. J.
Latham of Salem took an Inter
esting trip to Elk lake to give
the visitors their first experience
in a huckleberry patch and later
in the day made the trip to .the
end of the Santiam highway, east
of Detroit. The : people were
friends when living in Kansas.
Is Convalescing i
Maxine Doyle, who was injured
in an automobile j accident at
Longview about two weeks ago,
is visiting with relatives and
friends in Gates during her con
valescence. She expects to return
to Longview ia two weeks.
Mrs. Ruby Winters left Mon
day for Spokane to be with her
mother,. Mrs. Mary Arthur, who
is Quite ill in a hospital in that

Saturday from Fobs, where she
visited her daughter,' Mrs. Ed
Schultz, and family, also with
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heath. She
made an Interesting trip to Man-

regular meeting of the city coun
cil held Tuesday night, plans for
the new pump house were dis
cussed and it was decided that
the work should be started at the
earliest possible date. The con
tract for the construction will be
let as soon as the estimates ot
the probable cost canbe secured.
' The council voted" to cut off
the water from all water users In
the city who have been delinquent
for more than three dollars.
An offer for the city's Interest
in the Tyson place on Hayes street
at $500 was eccepted. It was
voted to collect $8 a month rent
from the i Scbermer ' property
which has recently been acquir
ed by the city, i
The city commissioner was! in
structed to get In touch with all
property owners who wish to put
in cement walks in order that ap

this work done under a blanket

Fisher and J. N. Fisher drove to
Portland Tuesday to complete the
sale ot their store, Fisher & Sons,
of which they have been joint Pro
prietors for several years. Mr,
Fisher, senior, has owned this
store, for the past thirty years,
being one of the oldest pioneers
in town and many old friends will
miss seeing: him in business.
: Harold F. Brelje who with his
wife has recently moved here from
Bismark, North Dakota, will be
the new proprietor. He plans to
remodel and refurnish the store,
and will carry a complete line of
men s and Boys' furnishings.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Thomas of
Los Angeles, Calif., have been vis
iting in Stayton this week. They
are old timers here, and were in
business in the Stayton Meat Mar
ket for a number of years. After
visiting In Stayton they plan to at
tend the Pendleton round-up be
fore returning to their home.

The charter was draped in
memory of Mrs. Pearl Hopkins;
who passed away August 29. The
next meeting will be of a no-host
luncheon to be held ' at Nelson's

Jellison . and son. Arthur, and

guests at the home of former
friends. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Hell
eman, who moved here from Bill
Ings two years ago. The families
enjoyed' several trips to the Ore
gon beaches where they had their
initial experience at deep sea
fishing. t '
Mrs. Roy. E. Barker who has
been ill for about a month, -at
her home here was: removed to
the Deaconess hospital in Salem

Mrs. James' A. French who re
ceived a broken bone just above
the- wrist recently when she fell,
is recovering satisfactorily. .
