Legion Picnic Is
Scheduled Sunday
SILVERTON, July 30 The an
nual American , Legion picnic,
sponsored by the Delbert Reeves
post, will be held at the Hazel
Green park Sunday.' Music will
be furnished by the Silrertoa -!
Boys' band. Fres dancing, swim
ming, boating, will be features of
the "day. Various contests, with
cash prizes to the winners, include
dlTlng, nail driring, running, sack
races, pie eating, wiener eating

The auxiliary is in charge of
food booths.

who hara owned the Water street
market at Silrerton for nearly 1
years, sold the market this week
to I. 'F. Tufter and Clarence
Morley. who will take possession
Monday.
Mr. Tucker, who Is a son-in-law
of Mayor Garter, and Mr.
Morley hare been in the employe
of Ganrer & Graham at their mar
ket for several years.
The partnership of . Ganrer &
Graham, which began here 19
years ago, will not be discontin
ued but will be carried on in the
enlargement of their cold-storage
plant which opened here a year
Mew I Unit Planned :
: A new unit, to cost approxi
mately $3000, will be added to
the present plant on Jersey street.
The enlargement will contain 209
additional lockers and a big stor
age room-which will not be a low
tempera tar one. Another com
pressor will be added.
It Is estimated that oyer 15000
worth of foods is continuously
stored in the Silrerton locker
plant.
Mayor Garrer came h e r e In
August of 1917 and was at first
employed by Jensen and Graham
in their market then housed in
the building now occupied by the
Rainbow restaurant. Following
Mr. Jensen's death the next
spring, Garrer bought in as a
partner to Graham and two years
later they purchased the building
now housing them.
Work on the enlargement of
the storage plant will begin at
once.

SILVERTON, July 30 Dr.
Ralph I. Shaddock will be master
of ceremonies at the big Townsend
plan picnic scheduled for the city
park at Silrerton Sunday. Mnsle
will be furnished by the Silrerton
4-1 band. A program of Speakers
will begin at 1 o'clock and Includ
ed in this are Willis Mahoney.

Sold to" Dakota Man
SILVERTON, July 39 The
Homeseekera' agency this week
closed negotiations whereby
Claude Leach of Dunn county, N.
D., became the owner of the N. P.
Webb acreage on South Water
street. Mr. Leach plans to go in
for poultry raising.
Alf O. Nelson, manager of the
agency, and Leach were old-time
friends and neighbors In North
Dakota.

medical conference. He Is presi

likely will build no more
fireplaces now that he has
completed the one for his
son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Burt on
their new house here.
Mr. Forbes can point to
many a chimney, fireplace
or other piece of brick work
which he has made in Ore
gon, particularly Portland,
where he arrlresl to years
ago and was employed as a
brick mason.
The Burt home Is of a cot
tage type, will contain fiVe
rooms; be a story and a half
high and hare a complete
stone basement. '
