number to be played. It is well
known as an effective and bril
liant concert solo. '
These contests present a splen
did opportunity f or t a 1 e n t e d
young pianists to gain the exper
ience of playing with a symphony
orchestra. Many outstanding
young 'artists have gained their
first recognition through, winning
such an honor. It is a yearly cos
torn in the Portland 'Junior sym

has resigned her position and re
turned to her home in Salem.

Baird ot Portland was announced
recently in Corvallis at a buffet
dinner given by Dean Milam with
30 members of the home econom
ics staff in attendance. Mrs. C.
H. Ackerman was hostess for
party and shower and a group of
the young set honored Miss Stut
taford with a theatre party fol
lowed by a shower a the Withy
