Coast Bridges to
Be Ready on Time
An ot the tire Oregon coast
highway bridges, now under con
struction, will be completed on or
before the . contract limitation
date. C B. McCullough, state
bridge engineer, declared Friday.
The bridges will cost approxi
mately $5,500,000, Including in
terest on the bonds and all other
costs. Work on the Alaea -bridge
was started in April, 1934, while
work on the other spans began
In July of the same year.
McCullough said the Siuslaw
bridge would be completed in
February of next year while the
Coos Bay bridge would be n min
ed the following May. The Coos
Bay bridge is the largest of the
five spans.
The Reedsport bridge will be
completed in December of this
year and the Alsea span In Feb
ruary, 1935. The Yaqulna Bai
bridge win be ready to turn over
to the state in September ot next
year.
Work on the 'Yaqulna Bay
bride was delayed because of
trouble with the foundations.

ures to show the decisive decline

done by funds raised through the
sale ot Christmas seals.
Fifty years ago, every 100th
home in the United States had a
case of tuberculosis and the dis
ease was ranked first in causes
of death. It is now seventh In
caases. Miss Holmes pointed out.

hill site south of town, though the

turned yesterday from a trip .to
California during which he enjoy
ed inspecting the press rooms of
three metropolitan papers,-the
Call-Bulletin the Chronicle y. and
the Examiner, all in San Francis-

he and Mrs, Edwards spent their

George Rhoten, who negotiated
the covered wagon trail last year
in. the same capacity, will act as
guides. Four major drivers,
working under each guide, and
four immigrants riding: with each
driver, will he selected later.
' The slogan, for this year's cam
paign, proposed by C. A. Spragusr
editor of the Statesman, is "Give
All-Ton Can Get All Ton Can."
Paul B. Wallace is chairman of
the sustaining membership cam
paign, tor members giving over
25, who are being enrolled now. ,
