BUTTERFAT STILL
w
DEMAND
PORTLAND, July 18. - UP) -
There was no change In general
trade- sentiment regarding batter.
Curtailed output of butterfat to
gether with the most urgent call
from ice cream manufacturers as
a result of late hot weather, cre
ated an abnormal , shortage of
suDDlIes.
Some butter was reported com
ing out of storage because of
the late Improvement In the price.
Butterfat was firm at quoted
figures.
More eggs were Deing laaen
from storage In this sector as a
result of decreasing supplies of
fresh stock and especially really
top quality. Prices were firmly
held.
Demand for live chickens was
quite steady In practically all set
tions along the coast. There was
no further change In buying or
selling prices generally.
Market for country killed hogs
was showing a firm tone, al
though the meat business has
fallen considerably since the ad
vent of recent hot weather.
Country killed calves ani
lambs were generally reported
with a favorable tone, prices rul
ing steady in both lines and for
the various qualities.
First of the 1935 plum crop
was here from Mosier, a supply
of Beauty plums which were nom
inally priced $1 box.
A small supply of June El
berta peaches has been received
from Mosier. These were semi-
freestones and of good quality

NEW YORK. July 16.-SVThe
stock market pecked away at up
per resistance levels today with
only modest success.
Outside stimuli were at a mini
mum and trading appeared to be
of a rather routine character. The
volume in the stock exchange re
mained under the million mark at
913.580 shares. The Associated
Press average of 60 stocks rose
1 of a point at 45.4. Industrials
used In the compilation were a
shade higher, while the utilities
and rails showed no change.
Neither commodity nor secur
ity markets appeared to regard
as of much Immediate market
significance the decision of the
federal circuit court of appeals
at Boston declaring the AAA tin
constitutional, on the ground that
it constituted an invasion of
states rights. A supreme court
test of the law toward the end ot
the current year was looked for
in legal quarters.
Packard is Active
Packard was one of the day's
most active issues reflecting its
favorable earnings news ot Mon
day, and one block of 13,000
shares changed hands at a small
advance. The stock ended
of a point higher at 4. Hou
daille Hershey "B" gained more
than a point at 17, likewise
on good first half results. Motor
accessory and truck shares were
nearly all firm.

PORTLAND, Ore., July 16.-P)
-The usual slow trade of Tues
day prevailed at the early Gard
eners' and Ranchers' wholesale
market today.
The demand for berries held
fairly steady and they held firm
in price. Raspberries sold for
the same high of yesterday and lo
ganberries held 1.25 per crate.
The tremendous heat felt in
eastern Oregon burned about 40
per cent of the tomato crop out.
They arrived on the early market
selling for $1.30 per box for small
size tomatoes and 31.50 for large
size tomatoes. Some of the crop
from The Dallea went as high as
$2 per box.
The quality of the plums on
the market is very good but the
supply and demand limited. Cher
ries are still selling for between
and 6 cents but the majority of
the crop is used. They will prob
ably be completely oft the market
in two weeks.
Old stock potatoes can still be
gotten for 85 cents per 100
pounds. Probably the very last of
the strawberries to be sold this
year went yesterday morning for
$1.50 per crate. They were dried
up from the heat and looked like
a pretty poor quality.

The late decline was in the
