Tuesday night a masked man held
up J. W, Ransom in his store at
Shelburn. three miles north' of
Scio, and secured about $18, which
he forced Ransom at the point of
a revolrer to dellrer to him from
the till. The man, about 40. ap
peared to be an amateur at the
business. Ransom states. The fel
low is believed to hare been teen
at different times on the railroad

Charles Houston of Prineyllle
exhibited six young coyotes In
Scio Tuesday. He excavated the
little animals from dens in east
ern Oregon. CIyde Rodgers has
one of the coyotes and will train
his hounds to trail it. Mr. Hous
ton stated that one of the animals
was at liberty a week on his place
at Prlnerille and did not' attempt
to leave.
J. F. Wesely, clerk of school
district No. 95, reported at the
annual meeting Monday that on
June 17 the district owed, only
$3,639.41, as compared with $13,
422.40 at the annual meeting
June 18, 1934. Z. E. Sims was
elected school director succeeding
P. W. Schrunk and J. F. Wesely
re-elected clerk.
Mrs. Alice Bilyea, widow of
Jake Bilyeu, was buried at Frank
lin Butte cemetery Wednesday af
ternoon beside the grave of her
husband, who died several years
ago. The Bllyeus lived for many
years at The Dalles. The deceased
was formerly Alice Sumpter and
a resident of Crabtree. Her sis
ter, Mrs. Dave Crabtree, survives.

room home of John Manning near
the St. Louis church was com
pletely destroyed, by fire- at noon
Wednesday. Manning started a
fire in the cook stove and went to
the barn lot to feed his pigs. M.
J. Mahoney, rural mall carrier,
gave the alarm and finally the
Woodburn fire department was
called, but , the blase had gained
too much headway to save it.
The piano, three dressers, din
ing table and some chairs, the
heating stove and some , smaller
articles were saved." A fur coat
and "cedar cheat valued at f 250
belonging to one of the dangh-
ters was destroyed. The loss la
partially covered . by insurance.
