BUTTEB PRICE CUT
EQUALIZES MftRKET
PORTLAND; Jun 20,-ttPr-
Cattlnr of batter prices en the
produce exchange for the late ses
sion was not a surprise, for the
reason that leaders ot the trade
hare felt for some time that pre
TSiiing figures were a trifle too
high, and out or une- wita supply
and demand. . . . - .
produce exchange dliierential
between extras and standards was
maintained at lc lb. despite
the normal showing ot H to lc.
This appeared dne to the scarcity
of fop nallty while there was an
abundance-of other scores, price
cut In effect were lc lb. for ex
tras and standards and c for
others.
Butterf at -showed its normal
cat alone with butter.
Market for eggs was showing a
sreneraDr steady tone and with
out price change for the aay wiin-
ln the local territory. Prices ap-
neared rather erratic at Seattle.
Local poultry prices were down
again In spots with buyers gen
erally Inclined to force values to
the extreme low and as quickly as
Dossible. Plenty of orders to
absorb broilers were reported.
While all last week there was
a depressed tone for spring lambs
in the country killed meat trade.
a gradual cleanuD of the burden'
some sumlus was reflected. There
Is now a call for fresh stock.
General cleaning up Of country
killed calf receipts was indicated
here with maintenance of values
reported. Hogs were fully steady
Beef was still draggy in spots.
While there was again plenty of
home grown peas for all needs
here, many retailers were encour
aging the bringing In of Seattle
stock which keeps values here to
a low mark.

stock market had to absorb con
siderable selling In the early
hours today but a .quiet' recorery
was under way before thw.cloae
which partially erased early loss
es in many issues. r
Despite the morning lellinc
ware the tarnorer In the stock ex
change was considerably smaller
than in the previous session, drop
ping below the million- bare
mark at 994,020 shares. The As
sociated Press arerage ot 60
stocks ended .3 of a point lower at
43.7. .
Declining tendencies in the
atock list, while fairly general.
were better resisted in some sec
tions, notably the utilities, tobac
cos and many of the oils, while
some of the weaker spots were
found in the high priced favorites
of recent sessions such as Ameri
can Can, Allied Chemical, Colum
bian' Carbon, Ingersoll Rand,
Eastman, Haielatlas, Owena Illi
nois and Union Pacific, where
losses ranged from 1 to around 3
points.
Leading motor shares and those
of accessory companies were gen
erally soft despite the prediction
made at the Detroit meeting of
the Automobile Manufacturers as
sociation that the current year
would see the best auto outrun
since 1929.
