Utilities, oils, rails, merchandis ing issues, coppers, sugars, and miscellaneous industrials crept al most steadily higher in the stock market, which closed with num erous advances of fractions to 2 points. The Associated Press price av erage of CO selected stocks rose 5 to 36.8, but the turnover in the stock exchange was only 553, 040 shares, a little above yester day's. A few utilities actually came up to new highs for 1935, notably Pacific Lighting up more than a point to 24, and Pacific Gas up a small fraction to 18. Pacific Telephone rose 14 to 83. a new too for the year. American Tele phone rallied 1 to 103. Frac tional gains appeared throughout the utility list. American Can lumped 1 to 116, and Union Pacific rose IVt to 87. Ore., April 4.-JP) -Butter offerings at the produce exchange today were light and ex tras sold cent higher si Ti cents. Other grades were- un changed. Butt erf at advanced one cent to 30 cents. Eggs were firm sad unchanged. Excellent demand for top grade eggs continued here and the mar ket was fully steady. Undergrade have been in ove reapply but the breakers were active and absorb ing a considerable portion of tho supply. Cheese market was about steady at unchanged prices. - Most classes of poultry were about steady with prices generally unchanged. Local Brussels sprouts were virtually absent from the market. Demand continued here but must be tilled mostly from the out side. Rhubarb market continued firm especially on choice local which was quotable-at 11.40 on 15-Ib. boxes. Some Washington stocks have been received and are quoted to $1.80 for extra fancy. Receipts of lettuce have been ample for the trade and the mar ket was inclined to be a shade weaker but quotable to $3.75 on 6's. Retail demand for cauliflower has been slow and the market was slightly weaker. The trade quot ed No. 1 down to around $1.15. Another bad turn of the weath er has delayed work ion the pro duce farms in Oregon, further set ting back dates when local pro ducts will supplant those from the south Ln an already late season.
