Continuation of the Marlon
enuntT re-em Dlorment office on
North High street will depend on
continued help from the city ana
county governments here. Gay V.
Lintner. state director of re-em-
ployment agencies, said yesterday
while on an inspection trip nere.
Lintner said the federal govern
ment's department of labor stood
ready to match local appropria
tions for re-employment offices up
to 147,000 a year for Oregon.
Since the legislature only provid
ed 1S,000 a year for the offices
any additional funds received
from the federal government must
be matched against moneys the
city and counties provide for the
offices.
Salem Is paying 450 towards
the upkeep of the office here each
month and Marion county Is pro
viding $100.

Dust Pneumonia
Kansans9 Worry
Letter Reveals
Many, many Kansas residents
are sick from "dust colds" and
scores of others are suffering
from "dust pneumonia." John J.
Carter of Hutchinson, Kans., has
written to his mother, Mrs. Olive
Carter, who lives here. He says
further that in Baca county, Colo
rado, six deaths have occurred
from "dust pneumonia."
Mrs. Carter is a former Kansas
resident, but she says she is most
happy to be in Oregon away from
the conditions prevailing in that
state now.
