stocks were offered at concessions
from the previous close ranging
from fractions to around 2
points for active Issues. Bat no
very vigorous ; selling developed
and by the dose many equities
had recovered around half of
their extreme declines. .
American telephone was , an
other leading issue to sell during
the day at the lowest lerels since
1833, although the general mar
ket uneasiness, rather than "spe
cific news, appeared responsible
for its slip. The final price was
99, oft Z points on the day,
and it ended below par for the
first time since May, 1933. :
Despite the state of nerres in
market Quarters, equities were
not pressed for sale in any great
volume. The turnover for the day
was only 693.7173 shares, the
smallest, activity in 10 days. The
associated Press average for 89
stocks declined .3 of a point at
34.9.
