Records la the state depart
ment show that approximately 15
per cent' of the persons who lose
their automobile drivers licenses
for drunken driving are women.
George Flagg, deputy secretary of
state, aaid that three women bad
suffered the loss of their drivers'
licenses during the past week.

whose licenses were revoked were
involved 'in traffic accidents and
were taken to the police station
by the Investigating officers. State
department: officials said that
hereafter they, would segregate
the names of the women and men
whose licenses are v revoked - in
making their monthly : report.
Virtually all of the licenser were

Gasoline Refund
Checkup Will Be

The drive against persons who
have defrauded the state by
claiming gasoline tax refunds
when they were not entitled to
them. Is to continue Indefinitely,
George Flagg. deputy secretary of
state, declared.
Flfcgg said the state depart
ment had employed a number of
investigators and that all auspi
cious refund claims were being
checked. A number of arrests al
ready have been made, Flagg con
tinued, and ia several cases the
defendants were convicted and
subjected to substantial fines. The
records show that refunds last
year exceeded $700,000.
Flagg indicated that a number
of amendments to the existing
gasoline refund law would be
sought at the next legislative ses

Groshong Sets
City Jail Fire;
Damage Slight
Robert Groshong, who started
a fire in his city Jail cell Friday
night, was transferred to the
county jail yesterday tor observa
tion and safer keeping.
Arrested on a charge of be
ing drunk, Groshong had pro
ceeded to pile a number of blan
kets on a cell table and touch a.
match to them. The clouds ef
smoke that followed made him
unconscious and also attracted
the attention of the police, who
promptly drenched both Gro
shong and the blaze with water
from a fire hose.
