Fire Breaks Out
in Threshing at
Peterson Ranch
OAK POINT, July 20. While !
threshing on the G. A. Peterson,
Sr., place Friday morning, fire
broke out In the straw on the
fouth side of the straw stack,
and by quick wprk of the thresh
ing crew the thresher was pulled
away to safety.
Mr. Peterson bad left his plow
In the field when : he finished
plowing this spring so the trac
tor was- quickly hooked to it and
furrows were plowed around the
stack and between the sack pile
so the grain was all saved.
Neighbors from all around ar
rived as soon as they saw
the
flataes with- sacks and cans of
water, but the tire was soon un
der control

Mustache Race Develops at
Y Camp, With Moore

T. M. C. A. CAMP, Oceanside,
July 20. Wednesday morning's
activity began at 6:30. After the
morning bath in the creek, the
boys attended chapel led by "Mac"
McCallum. After camp duties 45
minutes were spent in cleaning up
the tents for inspection. Camp in
spection was won by Luman Ney's
squad No. 3. His squad was well
organized and the tents were the
best so far this year.
A morning swim and lunch fol
lowed Inspection. After dinner a
one hour rest period was recog
nized, to get ready for a hike to
Ocean6ide. On arriving at Ocean
side, the boys organized two teams
for games.
On returning to camp the boys
engaged in recreation and a swim
before dinner. Just before dinner,
Gus Moore arranged a playoff for
a championship singles and dou
bles in horseshoes and tether ball.
The playoff is to take place today
After the evening games, a camp
fire was held, In charge of "Mac."
Several feature numbers were con
tributed by the boys including a
gelistie aerviee 9 p. m. Meeting also
Tuesdsy and Friday nights, 8 p. m. The
Sunday afternoon fellowship meetings will
be resumed and will be held at the Fim
Church of the Naiarene at 2:45 p. m.

Roots Everywhere
SILVERTON, July 19 Stacks
of small cubic pasteboard boxes
with little round holes in them
have been attracting considerable
curiosity among visitors at the
Silverton postoffice during the
past few days. Finally it became
known that the boxes contained
iris roots and not chickens as
many supposed. The iris roots are
being sent from the Cooley gar
dens at Silverton. Shipments have
been made to every state in the
union, and to Australia, England

cial) Marie Dudger, Silverton's
cigar-smoking femaie who broke
into print on arrest a few weeks
ago, is at it again. It took about
every law officer in town t o
arrest her this afternoon, and
created such 'a sensation down
town as hasn't been created in
ages.
Chief Arthur Dahl got his hand
bitten, too. for his efforts to pre
serve law and order. That was"
when Marie started swearing and
cursing so heavily that Dahl
tried to shut her up in defer
ence to other women about. He
put his hand over her mouth,
and Marie bit, hard.
Marie was arrested this time
for creatine a racket in the

peppermint are under way on their
farm at Quincy. Some new rats
are being installed, Mr. Thurmon
has about 200 acres of mint ready
for harvest in another month. Th
price is quoted at 2.75 per pound.
