3d BALES OF HOPS
WAT 24 IMS
: Eggs climbed two cents a dot
en on. the local market Friday
morning, to a top 'of 33 cents
a dozen. Mediums were uted el
10 cents.
Hop sales ' during . the week
hare been-confined to 38 bales,
sold in three small lets of 19
bales each. The price . ranged
around 24 cents to the grower in
spite of tho fact that tb Oregwa
market is still considered to bare
a top of 35 cents. Tho qaaltty ef
the hops accounts tor the lower
price. Last week Abevt 100 bales
of hops changed hands in Oregon,
with fair prime quality 'clusters
netting producers 29 cents.
Growers with best quality hops
are- holding strong. Slow demand
for hops now, while seasonal, is
also due to low baying on part
ot brewers, who are not stock
ing quantities ahead of time.
Breweries, burdened with ex
penses of any new enterprise, are
generally buying only such quan
tities of hops as they hare imme
diate use for. ,
Market News serrice report tS
that New York hop market needs
are being principally supplied by
shipments on 'regular contracts,
but that dealers are selling some
to breweries, especially ale ones.
Just .starting np. Cold weather
has not been conducive to large
beer sales, but by the middle ot
March many of the hop contracts
will hare been completed and in
creased buying is expected. Prices
hold steady and markets la Eur
ope are firm.
