Spring Fashions Aired
By Rambling Reporter
By J. L. S.
AFTER a few warm days this
month, milady was all pre
pared to sally forth in search
of a new spring wardrobe. How
ever, the recent rains and cold
weather have placed the shopping
tour a little farther in the future
and at present more in the realms
of the imagination.
Fashions this spring bid fair to
be plain and bright at the same
time. If such a thing Is possible.
That is, the lines are simplified
and the trimming sparse but
smartly placed, yet the colors gay
and varied. Blue dominates the
early spring showings, much to the
joy of the fair-haired, blue-eyed
maids and matrons, but to satisfy
the striking brunettes and vivid
titlari types there are rust shades.
grays, a few browns, some black
and white and bright, bright reds.
Print and plain color combina
tions as well as plaids will be
popular and two-piece effects are
being shown in all types of appar
el, from sport to formal. Tunics
are fashionable.5
Trimmings vary from dainty or
gandie plaiting to bold plaid bows.
Metal threads in both gold and
sliver are found in stitched belts.
collars and sleeves. Metal cloth
belts and Jeweled belts and buck
les on dinner and evening dresses
are in vogue.

Sleeve emphasis has toboganned
down from the shoulder to the el
bow, to the inner atlsfaction of
those who have models purchased
last spring which were fashioned
this way. Yes, sleeves have revert
ed back to last winter's and
spring's design and have fullness
at the elbow and tight cuffs. No
more epaulettes to speak of.
Hats are the surprise of the
season. After three years of being
blind In one eye the miss who so
desires may . emerge once more
this spring and show her forehead
and hairline in cunning little "bon
net," "baby-face" or "off-the-face"
models fashioned in straw. Tri
corns have returned, with the
early models shown principally In
black, blue and red. Brimmed hats
still tip over the right eye as do
some of the turbans but rumor
has it that the younger contin
gent wilt greet the "bonnets" with
shouts of delight.
Space limits the consideration
of many other fascinating foibles
which have already appeared in
limited numbers In the local
shops. When the sun comes out
and stocks are complete we shall
make a more thorough survey and
relate just what the shopping miss
may find In her Salem ready-to-wear
