Prill of Sclo, chairman of the Linn county republican central commit tee, this week took preliminary steps for the annual obserrance of Lincoln day with a banquet In Albany on the evening of Febru ary 12. The general committee on arrangements is headed by F. D. Mayer of Lebanon, secretary of the county central committee. Other members of the general committee are Prof. F. A. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hammack. and two children, Bobbie and Ronald, returned recently from their va cation trip through -California. They went through the Imperial valley and as far as Tama, Ariz end made two side trips into Mexico. On the way down they passed through Palm Springs, Cat., and visited Mr. and Mrs. Arch Jerman. They report Arch apparently much improved in health. 'The Marlon county agent has 20 men catting wood on Ross Ham mack's new place. The contract calls for 1000 cords. Mrs. Floyd Herrold is confined to her bed because 'of high blood pressure. Mrs. M. F. Hammack has been quite 111 tor about a week. She is with her daughter, Mrs. Van Pelt in Salem. Ladies Club Meets The Ladles' , club met at the church Wednesday for an all-day meeting. At the noon luncheon a big birthday cake was served In honor of Mrs. Roy E. Smith, Mrs. C W. Pugh, Mrs. Pearl Flam ming, Mrs. Edna Vangbn, Mrs. Fred Hammack and Mrs. Diem, all of whose birthdays come in January. The CWA road crew under Bob Cole, which started some time ago at the south end of the district, has just passed the Clear Lake schoolhouse. They- ere clearing all of the brush from the road way and -opening np the side ditches which gives the road a much better appearance. CHURCH AT ZEXA ZEN A. Jan. 18 Rer. J. M. Frans of the Pratum Mennonlte church will hold services at the Zena church Sunday, assisted by Homery Lelsy and Enoch Zimmer man of Salem." IS The old grange hall on the Central Howell school property which has leen a land mark for many years is being torn down. Originally built for a grange ball the list of those interested in the property would Include practically all of the names of earlier residents here. The resi dent estimates that the building has stood for 60 years. After the grange disbanded the hall was used for dances and entertainments,- but during the at 10 yea. s It has not been used for any purpose and had merely become an unsightly ramshackle, building marring the looks of the school grounds.
