Proclaimed by fans in several
recent polls as one of the ten best
pictures of the year, "S. O. S. Ice
berg" comes to the screen of the
Capitol theatre today on a double
bill with Ken Maynard is "Fld
dlin Buckaroo".
Merieroers laded with soohis-
ticated fare out of Hollywood are
offered sights and sounds of the
polar regions as background to a
awift-moring drama of adventure
and undaunted love.
The filming of the picture was
fraught with hazards. Universal
sent an expedition, composed of
38 actors, technicians and scien
tists, into northern Greenland,
only 15 degrees from the north
pole. For six months the com
pany fought cold, exposure and
hardships in an effort to capture
authentic shots for a story of a
lost expedition.
"S. O. S. Iceberg" includes
among Its spectacular sequences
the birth of an iceberg, the auro
ra borealis in full light, the crash
ing of a plane on an ice island
and the explosion of a two and a
half million ton mass -of ice. A
minor incident which barely es
caped being a major catastrophe
in the making of the film is a ter
