CENT RISE BID FOR CUED CHICKEIIS More "Honest Eggs" Sold; Butter Easier in Spots; Lettuce Quality Poor PORTLAND, Dec. 2. m Ad vance of 1 cent generally in the price hia for colored fowls was somewhat out of the normal con sidering the season. The advance appeared chiefly due) to the desire of tne-pnbllc to bay smaller fowls than the torn, turkeys, which hare been Inclined to show more or less sluggishness In morement recent ly. The last session of the produce exchange quoted a general rise of 1 cent for colored fowls. Late trading In the entire chick. en market has been ot better than normal character, dne chiefly to the demand for small fowls. Trade la the butter market was about steady, although a trifle easier in spots. Government pur chases next week were expected to Influence the market one way or the other. Butterfat w,as easier. With complaints of . retailers and consumers increasing at a rery rapid rate, there was morel disposition on the part of some distributors to sell "honest eggs" instead of the mixture of fresh and storage goods. At the week end there was no change generally noted In the sales of country killed meats. Veal and hogs continued about steady while demand for lambs was fair ly good. Despite talk of Improvement, no such condition was noted in apple prices either here or gen erally through the country. Lo cally the market was sufficiently stocked with home offers to with hold Yakima offerings in volume. Owing to the rery poor quality of lettuce, the deal here was rery much mixed. Neither the Califor nia nor The Dalles stock was up to normal in quality. Rift in Japan's K Cabinet Averted S v "TOKYO, Dec. 2.
