It. UP Sit uation in the egg trade la becom ing desperate from the standpoint of storage holders , who are. be wildered at their inability to make faster unloads. The situation- is desperate on account of the known. fact that a consider able rolume of the so-called fresh eggs, are nothing but, cooler stock and are getting quite smelly. Complaints of consumers were being unheeded by distributors of eggs and retailers claim that the public is beginning to 'lay off eggs because of their inability to secure fresh eggs if they pay for them. Complete failure ot the law to protect consumers, retailers and honest distributors is now ack nowledged. There were really no establish ed prices on eggs today. Artificial prices created by con tinued buying ot all surplus by the government are continued in the butter trade here. There con tinued a mixed buying price on butterfat here. Much better demand was show ing for chickens in the wholesale trade as a result of shortage of turkeys and the advanced price on the latter. All sorts were in fa vor. Market for country killed meats showed practically no change for the day. There appeared suffi cient supply in all lines to take care of current ot early prospect ive needs. Rather good volume of both city and country sales of food stuffs was general here. Demand during the last few days has been exceptionally favorable. Unexpected increase in supplies of home grown apples has been shown here, resulting in sales ot jumble pack being sold at the sea son's low price. I'ackea stock however was selling better for the holiday. Potatoes and onions were nom inally unchanged.
