LPi Market tor butter was without quotable1 change during the late session of thr Produce Exchange even though government buying was reported. , Failur of the government to take butter out ot store, where the only real surplus Is at pres ent showing, created more or less weakness In the trade. With record storage butter stocks the undertone of the trade was greatly weakened, for both fresh and Ice house goods even though those in charge of the ex change nave been able to hold quotations unchanged there. On the open market sales were being made below the figures establish ed on. the exchange, a situation which suggests only weakness. Trading in the egg market con tinued to reflect more or less weakness In the undertone even though general values were sta tlonary tor fresh offerings. Market on live chickens was badly depressed here and along the coast generally. Late bids have been reduced lc lb. for practical ly all offerings. California surplus is blamed. Strength continued to be dis played in the market for country killed meats with the exception of beef, which remained low priced. All recent advances in hogs, lambs and veal were held. Gain of strength was suggested generally in the market for pota toes at Pacific northwest sources with buying more difficult at firm prices. Local values were up an other nickel a cental in spots. Heavy shipping sales of celery continued from Willamette valley points in carloads. Prices w e r e firm at the late advance. Cauli flower was inclined to rule a trifle slower and lower in spots. There was much excitement in the market for solid head lettuce with shipping points getting sharp advances. Local prices have been held down by the tag-end of the home supply which waa not very good. Onion market was unchanged at the source. Oregon walnuts were very scarce with demand rather keen. 38 Cents Paid For Fuggles by Woli, Reported The highest price paid for hops in many weeks is reported with Wolf paying 38 cents for 103 bales of fuggles. Walker & Walker and Walker & Son at Indepen dence also sold between 600 and 700 bales of the 1933 crop for 35 cents, the best market price on clusters. Louis Lnchmund last week sold 900 bales, the balance of his 1933 crop, to an English firp. The price is said to have been 25 cents. The Walker hops also were for the English trade.
