day of apparent good health and
a late Afternoon walk in fhe sun
and fresh: air, Mrs. John Kouba
died suddenly on her return to
her home in Sooth Scio Sunday
evening from cerebral hemor
rhag, according to-diagnosis by a
local physic ".n. Funeral serv
ices were held at the Z. C. B. J.
hall in Scio at 2 o'clock Thurs
day afternoon, with interment in
Franklin Butte cemetery near
this city.
Mrs. Anna'Shlndler Kouba was
born in Czechoslovakia July 21,
1867. At the age of 20 years
she came to the United States
and in 187 7 was married to John
Shindler, residing in Ohio, Kan
sas and Nebraska before coming
to Oregon In 1899. Nine of the
10 children born to that union
snrvive, as follows: Joe Shindler,
Toledo; .Frank Shindler, Scio;
Charles Shindler, Philippine is
lands; Mrs. Joe Bares, Ross.
N. D.; Mrs. Henry Stratton, Al
bany; Ms. Carl Peinert, Toledo,
O., Mrs. Lawrence Mitchell, Cov
ington, Ky.; Mrs. Jesse Hildreth,
Scio; Mrs. A. L. Ferrel, Los
Angeles.
Upon arriving in the Scio re
gion, Mr. Shindler bought the
Jack Bilyeu farm fire miles east
of Scio, where the family made
its home for 18 years, moving
to thi3 city in 1917. Mr. Shind
ler died in 1924. In 1925 Mrs.
Shindler was united in marriage
to John Kouba, who survives
her. She is also survived by 20
granchildren and 13 great-grand
children.

near Salem, who have recently
returned from a world tour, were

at luncheon yesterday. Mr. Noble
spoke interestingly on the Chin
ese situation.
