cent state conrention held in Sa
lem was giren by Mrs. V. V. Cald
well, secretary.
A hot-lunch dish is being serr-
ed daily to more than 60 children
in the training school, this being
financed by the Parent - Teacher
association with individual con
tributions. Sponsorship of. the
P.-T. A keeps the project in suc
cessful operation. Mrs. Forbes
stated that many delegates whom
she contacted at the P.-T. A. con
rention were astounded to learn
that this could be, and was, kept
going without any charge to the
children.

Miss Effie Smith, who prepares
cafeteria lunches for the training
school faculty, also makes the
hot soup tor the children in the
school kitchen. The project was
tried out first in 1932 and was
carried through the school, year
without a break until June 1. Mrs.
J. B. Lorence is chairman of the
committee in charge.
, The program featured Book
week, now being observed at the
training school. Miss Clara Trot
ter, director, gave a short talk on
tainfhg school. The final nam
training schcol. The Final nam
ber was a short play presented
by eighth grade children.
At the business session It was
roted" to contribute toward the
traveling expenses of the state
P.-T. A president; also voted to
pay transportation of local dele
gates to the state convention.

Kingwood Post ot'the American
Legion to be held Friday evening

findings of the committee named
to make arrangements about the
property upon which the new le
gion hall and club house is to be
erected, will be given. From 6 to

meeting, the women of the church

Nuptials Announced
The quiet wedding of Miss Reba
Thurman, eldest daughter dt Id r.
and Mrs.George Thurman of West
Salem, to Nicholas Sweigart,
which was solemnized on Novem
ber 1, is Just now being announ
ced. The young couple are mak
ing their home in the Clifford
Tongueland place on Kingwood
avenue.
At the November meeting of
the city council, it was agreed
that the bonds for beer venders
within the city should be fixed
within 10 days or t h e 1 r places
closed up. The street committee
was instructed to look into the
proposition of fixing Piedmont
avenue between Cascade drive and
Rosemont and determine the ex
tent of needed improvements to

put in extra lighting In the front
of the store and comply with the
law.
City Attorney Elmer Cook re
ported t b a t t h e easements on
streets and property vacated were
drawn up and ready to be signed.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dalke have
purchased an acre of land between
Cascade and Terrace drives and
joining the Applewhite property
and next to lfls acre. The Charles
E. Stricklins have bought an acre
or more and both families are
planning to build on the land and
make their homes there.
NEWLYWEDS GROW
CENTRAL HOWELL, Nov. 9.
Central Howell is having a
larger share of newlyweds than
is usual in so short a time. Two
more weddings last week were
those of John Rutherford to
Clara LeVailey, November 4, and
John Wood to Faye Ramsden,
November 2, both at Vancouver.
