QUIET PAST WEEK
Hop markets continued an ex
tremely quiet tone the past week,
with no sales of either old or new
hops reported from the three
coast states, says the Weekly Hop
Market Review. Growers are not
pressing the hops for sale and
the market undertone apears fair
ly steady.
Quotations are still considered
the same as a week ago, ranging
from 35 cents to 40 cents per
pound to growers. Oregon grow
ers, and particularly those with
good quality hops, are showing
firm holding tendencies and are
either not offering their remain
ing supplies or aro asking 40
cents and upward.
The October 1 official estimate
of the 1933 hop crop In the United
States showed an Increase of 2,
209,000 pounds over the Septem
ber 1 estimate, with total pro
duction estimated at 37, 724,000
pounds.
The Oregon crop Is now placed
at 19,550,000 pounds or 92,750
bales and averaged 1150 pounds
per acre. The Washington average
acreage yield was 2100 pounds on
the 8,190,000 pounds estimated.
The California yield is now placed
at 9,984,000 pounds, an average
yield per acre of 1560. pounds.

spud market. Labiah celery gained
18 cents on tat dozen due to hea
vier shipments away. The- price

Pumpkins are coming In in
quantities, with, prices to the far
mer ganging- all the way from 49
to le cents per dozen. Concord
grapes bring, the grower 30 cents
a lag box and local tomatoes are
down. It cents a bushel to 40
cents.
Brussels sprouts are cheaper, at
90 cents a lag and turnips arc

In a sudden late wave of buy
ing, wheat, corn, oats and rye
all bounded to tha utmost limit
allowed during any one day,
wheat and rye up S cents a bushel,
corn 4 cents and oats J cents,
but big profit taking ; sales led to
violent reactions from the tap.
Trade advices out of Waahlngtan
said the admiinstration was work
ing on plana to distribute approx
imately $70,000,000 to wheat
farriers participating in produc
tion control, and that loans te
be extended on wheat would , be
similar to those on corn.

BOSTON, Oct. 20. OP) The
Commercial Bulletin will say to
morrow:
"Demand for wool has been at
low ebb this week. Occasional
sales are reported but they have
bsen invariably ot small quan
tities. Manufacturers continue to
consume heavy quantities of wool
but consumption is gradually les
sening, In line with general ex
pectations. The trade naturally
has come to pause pending a de
termination of the strength of the
buying movement on fall and win
ter clothing.
"Foreign markets are all ruling
strong and healthy and prospects
of lower prices for wool In the
foreign primary markets, look, at -the
moment, rather remote.
"Mohair continues slow. Stocks
on spot are rather small. .Some
sizeable Importations of foreign
hair are being made."
