Har ris of this place. Rev. Father Moffenbier of Portland, an uncle of the bride, conducted the mar riage rites in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Drescher of Mt. Angel and the groom is the son of Mrs. Mary Harris of this place. The young couple will make their home here. They win be at home to their many friends at the new home constructed by Mr. Har rls this summer ' on the Harris place at the north side of the lake. Willard Aker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Aker, was recently honored' with a birthday supper given at the Aker borne by his mother. Woodburn Mrs. J. Dallas Sid well of Portland gave an interest ing and instructive speech to mem bers of the Federated Women of the Woodburn Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at the meeting held at the Third street home of Mrs. A. E. Austin. Mrs. Sidwell is the Americanization chairman for the Portland district of the Parent-Teachers a sociation and secretary for the Portland Amer icanization council. She has been working among the foreign-born for nine years. Miss Joyce Woodfin played sev eral of her own piano composi tions. Miss Pauline Lhresay read th scripture passages and Mrs. P. M. Hammond led the prayer. Refreshments were served, with Mrs. Hammond and Mrs. Paul Pemberton pouring. Hostesses were, besides Mrs. Austin, Mrs. E. A. Lytfe, Mrs. Frank Settelmier, Mrs. A. E. Leary, Mrs. Ellis Soules. Mt. Angel At a very pretty wedding in St.- Mary's church at 8; 15 Tuesday morning Marie Sprauer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sprauer, became the bride of- Huber Esser. Rev. Father Berchtold of ficiated. , The sanctu ary was beautiful with autumn leaves, ferns, dahlias and trailing vines. The bride, all in white and carrying white carnation and pink rosebuds, was attended by her sister, Caroline Sprauer, maid of honor, and Louise Sprauer, a cousin, bridesmaid. The brides maid was dressed in green and the maid of hohor wore orchid and both carried bouquets cf sal mon colored gladlola. Lester Bleu was best man. The wedding dinner was served at the Marion hotel at 12:30 and at 2:30 a reception was held at the bom of the bride. In the eve ning a weddig dance was given in the hall at Monitor. .- - ;'.. Roubal entertained at a 1 o'clock lunch eon Tuesday afternoon for her mo ther, Mrs. William Ellenberg of Cleveland, Ohio, who leaves for her home Thursday. Mrs. Elien berg came to Silverton during the summer and has been visiting at that home of her daughter since. On her return trip she plans to spend several days at the Century of Progress at Chicago. Hayesville The Modern Teach ers club held its first meeting for the year at Hayesville schoolhouse Monday night. The members plan to take up the study of "The Rational Teach ing Method" during the coming winter and appointed Mrs. Hazel Marshall and Mrs. Marie Stettler to arrange the program. The club will meet every sec ond Monday in the month. The next meeting to be held at the Hayesville school. Ed Nash, who has been seri ously ill for some time, is now in the Portland Medical hospital. Mr. Nash has been employed at the Hamilton furniture store for sev eral years and is a graduate of Salem high school, having served as student body president in 1928-29.
