Last week there was a very liberal decrease in receipts from oat - state points and cen trallser output was also smaller. There was no change in open prices for tha day; Since announcement was made that egg prices here would ad vance 1 cent, there has been con siderable Improvement in the buy ing and the volume ot business has been substantially increased- alt around. Out-state Inferior stuff was still a factor. . Market far live hens continued to show a firm tone locally but with no further price change. The springer stuff was not so firm. Market for country killed meats showed a very, good tone and al most general strength was reflect ed. Beef along remained slow ith much stuff being offered that was previously held back. Much improved demand for honey was indicated. The call for both comb and bulk stock was gaining and a short crop was gen erally reported through this ter ritory. First carload of walnuts of the season has been reported in from California. Sales of Emerald Bud ded to retailers were around 16 cents with No. 1 at 17 cents pound. Locals were expected with in a week. . Another spell of weakness has struck the potato trade here as a result of the conflict between fighting brokers of Portland. Yakima stock wag being sacrificed and this has resulted in lower prices for the entire potato trade here. STOCKS rill. BONDS SAG; SUES PILE UP NEW YORK. Oct. 16". UP) Stocks and commodities tumbled sharply today as long positions were Uquitated. Volume increased to 2,666,432 shares on several selling flurries, the most Intensive of which came in the last hour after wheat had swooped down the allowable limit of 5 cents a bushel. Cotton was off a couple of dollars a bale. while minor staples and bonds sagged. Stocks were uniformly weak, especially on the late reaction which uncovered many stop loss orders and brought liquidation from other sources. U. S. Steel flopped under 40 and was down about 4 points net, similar loss es being recorded by Du Pont, Celanese, New York Central and American Can. Allied Chemical, National Distillers and Case were off around 6, while Bethlehem, General Motors, Chrysler, Har vester, Pennsylvania, Baltimore & Ohio andAmerican Commercial Alcoholyielded in the neighbor hood ot 3. Union Pacific's net loss was 5. American Telephone's decline was more moderate. Advance Buying Of Turkeys Not Materializing In spite of turkey growers' readiness to place part of their birds on the market this far in advance of the big holiday trade, there is no market. None of the local buyers are making any of fers and so far no trade has open ed up. In another week or two, opening holiday prices will prob ably be quoted. One grower, offering a few birds last Saturday, is reported to have -asked 32 cents a pound for his stock. Varied Program is Planned for Annual Bazaar, SubUmity SUBLIMITY, Oct 16. UP) Caught In a whirlwind of stop-loss selling, wheat fell 5 cents in final transactions today, and pulled all other board of trade staples down. Most selling of wheat appeared to come from eastern sources, and was in general looked upon as li quidation associated with stock market uasettlement. Except corn. every grain dropped to the ex treme limit allowed for any single day, and each broke to new bot tom price- records for the season. Wheat went more than 54 cents nnder the season's high, with corn off 39 cents. Wheat closed semi-demoralized at the day's low point. 44-5 cents , off compared with Satur day's finish, corn showing 4-li decline, oats. t-t down. A pack of almost half a million cases of f raits and vegetables will be this year's record record to date - for the Pautas Bros, can nery, according to George Paulas, manager. The company stiTl has about 1309 persons oa the payroll, with the weekly expenditure for labor alone running around 313,- 099. For the entire season, the com pany will distribute about 8590, 000 in payroll, it is estimated. Estimated receipts of do mestic wool here, reported to the Boston grain and flour exchange during the week ending October 14, amounted t 2,510,200 pounds compared with 1,418,900 the pre vious week.
