Decrease Seasonable; Prices
Followed, Fresh Stock;
OniorP Market Soft
PORTLAND. Oct 4. (AP)
The advance of lc in the price of
ergs named by the Paelfle Co-ops
and generally followed for fresh
stock by the private trade, sag
rested ' contlnaed decrease in of
ferings here, which was more or
less of seasonable character. How
ever, the decrease was less than
normal and somewhat : smaller
than usually expected.
phices named in Portland were
generally those that rule while In
some markets a. higher price is
published but seldom obtained.
Reflection of this was noted in a
recent survey which shows that
less than 15 per cent of total sales
ware at extreme, price and most
of the business below those named
at Portland, although a lower rate
was-named: here than, elsewhere
' Storage stock, was beginning to
ease, off despite the-strength in
fresh goods as quality was deteri
orating.
Trading In the butter market
appeared not only Quite active lo
cally but prices were steady to
firm and especially on the lower
scores' which did not recently ad
vance.
Live chicken market was rather
mixed here. Moulty hens were ab
solutely without demand and they
should be kept at home, according
to leading receivers here. Good
call was shown for broiler stuff.
Market for country killed calves
was showing further weakness for
ton grade stuff but was cleaned
up for heavy offerings.
First big shipment of Deschutes
potatoes of the season was report
ed. Crop is a big one and tubers
of moderate size with quality up
to the normal Deschutes standard.
Priced around $1.50 with bakers
a dime better.
Market on onions was a trifle
soft locally with Increasing stocks
from Yakima and a sprinkling
from Walla Walla- while- locals
were making their appearance
here and there.

Loss of prunes due to splitting
from September rains and brown
rot will probably run 20 per cent,
Mr. Van Trump estimates. The
loss la not as heavy as at first
feared, due to favorable weather
the past five or six days. While a
