Con siderable interest' is being expres sed here in the school situation at Willamette valley timothy Valley View, but a few miles from Silverton. The boundary board, ac cording to Information received here, voted not to hold school in the valley view district this year, When it was made known that the district did not have sufficient number of children of school age to maintain a school, the school SILVERTON, Sept. 27. Tom Miller, Smith-Hughes agricultural student ol Silverton high school, won second place In the open class at the Canby fair with his Duroc Jersey sow. This same animal won third place in open classes the state fair. Young Miller plans next to show her at the Pa cific International Livestock Ex position. Upon arriving at the Canby fair grounds Warren Crabtree, Smith Hughes instructor at Silverton, found he must provide transporta tion for 13 pigs instead of the one. as the Miller sow had farrowed during her stay at the fair. The sow was returned In a canvas covered crate in a trailer, while the young pigs were pro vided with a warm nest in the in structor's car. The return trip was made in a downpour of rain, but neither the mother pig nor her offspring seemed to have suffered any harm. Young Miller is making an en viable record as a breeder and showman In the Silverton com munity. Enrollment Is High. Elmer Thompson, another Smith-Hughes ssricultural stu dent, reports the arrival of a fam ily of 12 young pigs from his Du roc Jersey gilt. Forty-one Smith-Hughes agri cultural student, have enrolled in the local department with the be ginning of the second week ot school. This is but five less than last year, which is remarkable. considering the lack of bus trans portation.
