drive, at the first meeting Mon-

should be the largest in its history.-Contest

meeting, October 16.

C. Lindley, a 'Jo by Felix Wright
and piano duet by Misses Clarice
and Naomi Tobie. Lindsay Wright
gave an interesting talk on the
trip to the Chicago fair.
School at Roberts
Will Open Monday
With Old Teachers
ROBERTS, Sept. 27. School
will reopen Its doors next Mon
day, October 2, with Mrs. Elsie
Carpenter, principal, and Miss
Julia Query, primary room. This
will be the beginning of the third
year for each. Janitors will be
Freddie Jungwirth and Gerald
Shorey.

MILL CITY, Sept. 27. Funeral
services for Mrs. Leland O. Mc
Donald were leld Wednesday af
ternoon at the Presbyterian
church with Rev. Francis Winder
in charge. Burial was in Fox Val
ley cemetery beside the grave of
her infant daughter, who died in
June.' T
Josephine Sweet aas born In
Elmira, Ore. December 1, 1895,
and spent the early years of her
life In Elmira and Eugene. On De
cember 25,' 1917, she was married
to Leland 6. McDonald in Mill
City and since then has made her
home here. Following an nineess
of several months she passed away
at the Mill City hospital Sunday
afternoon. Mrs. McDonald was a
member of the Christian church.
Besides her husband, she is sur
vived by three sons and two
daughters. They are: Donald,
Kenneth,; Robert Allen, Frieda
Jane and Mildred Ann, all at
home. She is also survived by her
father,-William Sweet,-of Eugene,
one-brother. Alga Sweet, of Dal
las, and two sisters. Mrs. William
Mlckenham of .Turner; and Mrs.
Byron Blanchard of Claremont,

.HUBBARD- Sept. 27. Mrs.
Laverne Norton is convalescing at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Miller, after the birth
of her daughter, Janice Del, who
was born at the Anna hospital,
September 14, and is the first
child of Mr. and Mrs. Norton and
second granddaughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Miller.
MILL CITY, Sept. 27. Sep
tember seems to be a moving time
for a number of families here.
Mrs. C. Brill la leaving for Port
land to join Mr. Brill who has
been In that city for; some time.
The S. Godden family is moving
into the Brill residence and it is
understood that the 9. H. Thack-
er family will more to the noose
vacated by the Godden family. As
soon as the manse is vacated by
the Thackers the new Presbyter
Ian minister, Her. J. MeAuley and
family; will move Into It, At pres
ent the MeAuley family is living
in Mehama. .-, -
Ray Downing, and mother of

occupied by Mr. and Mrs. R. Pow

place is vacated. Mr. Cnllins is

ily are moving the last of the
week to the old Downing noise in
South Mill City, and Mrs. Josie
Olmstead and son will move into
the Taylor house being vacated
by the Qallea family, and Mr. and
Mrs. Kunkltf ' will , move into the
Taylor ! cottage which the Olm
steads are vacating. -

The Santiam bible school district
will hold its regular quarterly
convention Sunday October 1,
meeting with the Christian church
Sunday school of Stayton. The
program will start at 10 o'clock.
The morning address will be
given by Rev. W. H. Lyman, pas
ton of the Christian church cf
Stayton, followed by a basket
luncheon at noon. The afternoon
program will begin at 1:30 p. m.
with song service led by Felix
Wright. The devotional services
will be led by Rev. George Cole,
pastor of the M. E. church of Stay
ton. Special numbers will be giv
en by the Busy Bees of Lyons; by
Willis Keithley of North Santiam .
and by the Hotter family of Sa
lem.. After the business meeting the
afternoon address will be given by
Dr. Lee of Albany.

Lightning Victim
Is Buried; Child

MOLALLA. Sept. 27. Funer
al services for Virgil Davis, 2 6,
who was killed Wednesday after
noon by lightning while he was
standing under a tree during a
storm, were held Monday after
noon at the Everhart funeral
none in Molalla. Interment was
in the Rose City cemetery In
Portland.
Mr. Davis home was in Calif
ornia and only two members of
his family, his brothers, Bruce of
Napa, and Vester of Santa Rosa,
were able to attend the funeral.
He is also survived by his wife
and three small children, one born
the day the father was killed. Mr.
Davis -had come to a farm near
Molalla about two months ago to
stake a home for his family. The
family bad planned to come later.
