Aug. . 18 (AP) The Commercial Bulletin will say tomorrow: Demand for wool has been somewhat slower than a week ago but the manufacturers are watch ing the market carefully, and some of them are ouying iair weights ot wool now and again. Medium Quality wools are very atpang. The manufacturers are stiu chiefly concerned over the prob lems of making price adjustments under the code. They look for an improvement In business after the holiday and when the code proo lems have been adjusted. ' The foreign markets are quiet, as usual In mid-August, but there is reported a good undertone In the markets abroad. The good business is expected in the fall. Mohair is dull but very firm in price. The bulletin will publish the following quotations: Scoured basis: Oregon: Fine and F. M. staple 76-78; fine and F. M. Ft. combing 73-75; fine and F. Five wheat plunges to lower e i m i t grandislanB melons on market Buyers Rush in Late, Miss Opportunity Corn Loses Gain J 0 - - CHICAGO, Aug. 18 (AP) In .a headlong downward plunge, the wheat market late today hit the bottom price limit allowed for a single day's fluctuation, S cents a bushel. Numerous bid ders quickly came into the mar ket at the limit but had no time to effect intending purchases in cluding oae order of a million bu shels. Disclosure of temporary ab sence of aggressive buying sup port appeared responsible for the collapse. Considerable selling done on resting orders was looked upon as owing to readjustment of the market position of various speculators, but was not of unus ual volume. Profit-taking on the part ot recent buyers of all grains was a contributing element of weakness with corn losing most ot an early gain which for a while had lifted the corn market to but little short of the maximum per mitted in one day and had hoisted other trains Wheat closed unsettled at the dajr'a lowest level, 5 cents under the average of yesterday's finish. n i off to i; up, oats 14-3 cents down. In Italy, the total production is esti mated at only 10,000 tons, or about a 25 per cent crop. Spanish filberts look better than Italian, with 18.000 tons, or 4ff per cent of the 1932 crop, ex pected. An average crop is anti cipated from Turkey, with the present estimate 42,000 tens. compared to 56,000 a year ago. With the Italian crop such a failure, Spain and Turkey will likely sell most ot their crops in the shell. It is said now that un- shelled filberts available to for eign markets this season will be smaller In comparison with 1932 3 than shelled filberts. Filbert prices in this country will undoubtedly reflect the scar city in these foreign countries, which means good news for Ore gen growers. Prices on both walnuts and filberts took sub stantial boosts recently. Stocks and Bonds (Copyright. 1923. Standard StatlstiesCe.) Aug. 18 (AP Extreme weakness of the I batter trade at California and Puget Sound points continued to domi nate the entire Pacific slope mar kets. Local trade was directly af fected inasmuch as it closed the outlet for the normal surplus ot this territory. Extreme depression in the Pu get Sound market has left the trade there somewhat bewildered. This city remained with the best tone along the coast. Production was decreasing but much less so than during any re cent season for like period. Stor age stocks were increasing at practically all points. Butterfat values were weak. Market for eggs was generally unchanged for tile day. Offerings of strictly fresh stock continued scant but "rnuch so-called fresh goods were in evidence. The lat ter were chiefly out of store. Market continued to show ex treme slowness for live chickens as a result of the recent hot weather which caused much dis ruction of fowls in feeding bat teries. There was no general price change for the day in country killed meats along the wholesale way. The cooler weather has kept the market from entirely dropping out of .sight. L W AT POBTUIID PORTLAND, Aug. 11 (AP) Prices were up and down In the cantaloupe market here with Yakima and The Dalles stock in slightly better offering after the recent near famine. Prices were erratic. Watermelons continued scarce and prices held firm to higher here with Inability of wholesalers to secure their needs. A carload of Yakima Ice creams arrived and sold 2 Me pound Weak prices were shown in the market for corn. Sales were being made as low as 30c sack but the general price stands between 40 45c for the best quality. Much strength was suggested in the market for tomatoes. Gen erally higher values ; were asked by distributors here as a result of the Increased call from con sumers. Apple market was fairly active bat at low prices. Slightly better call for slicing cucumbers, pickling slow. Green peppers were In abun dance, weak and generally lower. Mountain huckleberries were offered at 12c pound. Quality lettuce was firmer and higher. Selling Wave is Unsettling Late. On Stock Market NEW YORK.
