of Mrs. Floyd Root who is out of
town tor three months. Mrs. Har

ways and means committee to fill
vacancy caused by Mrs. Walter
Emrick moving to Imbler. Ore.
The club decided to sponsor danc
ing Instruction by Miss Katherine
Laidlaw of Portland, with a meet
ing some time in July in the Day
ton city park, Mrs. C. Geell and

The club Is cooperating with the
city council to rid Dayton of the
earwig pest by investigating the
purchase of colony of Inoculated
earwigs. Mrs. Harry Gray is
chairman of that committee.

Rev. Larson came to SUverton
last December to take charge of
the Free Lutheran pastorate at
SUverton. The last of May Rev.
Larson was extended a month's
vacation during which he return
ed to Minneapolis, where his mar
riage to Miss Ellen Gynhild was
solemnized. The two returned to
SUverton Thursday and are mak
ing their, home at the Free Lutheran-church
parsonage on Jersey
street.

Mrs. Ray L. Smith has returned
to Salem after a trip to- California
which proved unpleasant. Leav
ing with Mr. Smith June 14 for a
visit with relatives in Santa Mon
ica, Mrs. Smith, became ill with
serious infection, in her aim and
was forced to spend two weka In
a hospital In : Redding; Further
travel was deemed unwise, when
she had improved, so the Smiths
returned to their home here.

McPherson stated that ' The
drinker will pay the liquor tax
not in money but fn the loss of

ily will pay the liquor tax in less

A. O. Rempel gave a short talk
in which he told of the time when
Dallas had saloons. He stated that
women could not walk past a
saloon without being insulted and
that women, who voted tor repeal

trouble upon themselves.
Mrs. L. .J. Bursell also gave a
short talk In which she- pointed
out the danger of increased acci
dents If. repeal Was voted and
that the highways would be much
more dangerous. She also said that
prohibiting the sale of liquor In
fringed on personal liberty no
more than prohibiting the' sale of
morphine. I -
A prohibition meeting was held
at Liberty Saturday night, and
another is scheduled for Bridge
port July 15.

Planning for Pool

DAYTON, July 10. " Forty
members of the Unity Local
Fanners' Union attended the
July meeting held Friday night
at the Lafayette high school gym
nasium and made plans for. a
pool for grain sacks, twine and
flour for - immediate shipment.
The next meeting will be the
first Friday night in August at
the James Richardson farm and
will be in nature ofj. picnic.
