PORTLAND, Jane 7 (AP)
Prices were off today on light
weight hens in practically all
places with broilers still included
tx show more than passing weak
ness as a result of the Influx of
very small stuff.
Only a fair call was showing
for spring ducks In the local
trade. Young ducks were selling
mostly around 14-lSc but there
was little call for old stock with
few arriving.
There was little change In lo
cal strawberry prices for home
LIGHT B DM;
nteus sue
grown offerings during the day.
Wholesalers offered gold dollars
around 8 3. 40-2.19 with Califor
nia around 22. Sales to whole
salers were around 22.18 mostly
for dollars.
Asparagus continued In acate
shortage with more land flooded
There was scarcely sufficient
celery available to base quotation.
Country killed meats were
steady.
Churning. Operations
Reaching Peak;
Eggs Weak
PORTLAND. Juae 7 (AP)
Increasing supply of batter was
inclined to slow up trifle the
speculative demand for cubes la
the local trade. In general there
was practically no change in cur
rent values for the day lasofar'aJ
the open market was concerned-
Churning operations were Tap-
Idly reaching the extreme flush of
the season. Some local plaats re
port the greatest churning of
their history during the last cou
ple of days.
Demand for cabes has thus far
been sufficient to hold the price
intact although here and there
are suggestions of slight easiness
among timid holder
The local market remains one
of the best in the country aad
perhaps the best generally along
tbe coast.
Butterfat remains steady.
Market for eggs continued to
reflect weakness here. Only one
distributor was quoting top price
even in a nominal way. Others
were openly quoting le to 2c doz
en below.
SEAHLE CONTINUED
PORTLAND. June 7 (AP)
Labis h was again the center of
attraction in the lettuce market
today on the East Side Frraers
Wholesale market. Growers
from that section carried on a
single handed frght against Seat
tle competitors. They put the
price to 50e- crate for good stuff,
much better heads than Seattle
peculators, who were again try
ing to wreck the Portland market,
were offering. Home grown let
tuce and that from The Dalles
was priced up to 80-90c crate but
there was little business beyoud
75c.
To Sam Carli of Clackamas,
once again belongs the honor of
being the first to offer strictly
home grown peas and carrots for
the season.
Peas were In quite liberal
abundance and especially from
The Dalles. Sales nominally up to
3Vc lb. with the bulk 3-3 l-4c lb.
Beets were in much better sup
ply, selling mostly around 35 to
40c dozen bunches with turnips
30 to 35c generally. Carrots were
around 30 to 35c generally.
Gooseberries were In fair sup
ply around 3-3 Me lb.
