EGG MARKET GATHERS
Buyers Don't Support;
Report by Wallace
Precedes Decline
CHICAGO, June 2. (AP)
Heary selling found the grain
markets bare of adequate support
from buyers today, and prices
lurched downward.
Disturbance of market condi
tions followed statements attrib
uted to the secretary of agricul
ture that speculative price ad
vances ot late in stocks, cotton
and grains had interfered with
operation of the farm relief act,
especially efforts to take cotton
lands out of production. Another
statement ascribed to him indi
cated there would be no control
measure for the 1933 United
States wheat crop.
Wheat closed nervous at almost
the day's bottom figures, 1-1
under yesterday's finish, corn
down; oats off.
Today's closing quotations:
Wheat July 72-Vi; Sep
tember 74H-H; December 764
. Corn July 44; September

Oats July 244; September

PORTLAND. June S (APJ
Market for eggs continued to
gather weakness. Prices nomin
ally listed here were the highest
along the coast, quality consid
ered, therefore there was an ut
ter void ot shipping demand ex
cept for storage. Even this busi
ness is reported dwindling since
other markets showed receding
values while local prices were
nominally held high by some lead
ing distributive interests. Others
recently reduced their selling lists
lc at least and claimed then they
were undersold by parties who
quote higher figures openly.
Prices were being well held in
the market for butter. This ap
plied equally to the open market
and on the produce exchange.
Sutterfat was fully steady. Stor
age movement of butter continu
ed. While there was a keen demand
for live hens of all weights, the
market for broilers is depressed
as a result of the much under
wheight stock arriving. Prices on
these are perhaps lc pound off.
There was a mixed price situa
tion in old crop onions. Reports
of great strength and demand for,
these appear somewhat out ot line
with' latest information which
suggested stocks dragging at Wil
lamette valley sources.
- At the week end there was a
sudden change in sentiment for
country killed calves. Instead of
the weakness and surplus, there
was a shortage and higher price
to 7 He pound.
Around 50 crates of local
strawberries were offered on the
East Side Farmers' wholesale
market. Quality In general was
good. The best fruit sold rapid
ly $2.50 crate. Some California
20s were offered at $1.40.
